As our Senior Research Scientist, you'll be at the forefront of developing Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) that will transform how we approach maintenance operations across our global network. Within our Decision, Science and Technology (DST) team in Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME), you'll lead the development of innovative GenAI solutions that interpret warning signals, identify root causes, and recommend precise corrective actions before issues escalate.
Your expertise in Generative AI and Large Language Models will be instrumental in creating novel solutions that combine Amazon's rich proprietary data with global knowledge bases. You'll work closely with field stakeholders worldwide, ensuring our GenAI platform evolves to meet real-world challenges and delivers tangible results. Key job responsibilities
This role will be pivotal in rethinking how to revolutionize Reliability and Maintenance Engineering leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs).
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the design and development of GenAI powered solutions to transform maintenance operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, engineers, and product leaders to bring scalable, production-ready GenAI solutions to life.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in GenAI, LLMs, and related disciplines, bringing fresh and innovative concepts, ideas, and prototypes to the organization.
- Champion a long-term scientific vision for RME (Reliability and Maintenance Engineering) that aligns with customer value, business strategy, and the technological frontier.
- Play a critical role in enhancing the team’s scientific and technical rigor by identifying and implementing best-in-class algorithms, methodologies, and infrastructure that enable rapid experimentation and scaling.
- Mentor and grow junior scientists and engineers, cultivating a high-performing, collaborative, and intellectually curious team.

About the team
The mission of our team is to leverage the use of data, science and technology to improve the efficiency of RME maintenance activities, reduce costs and increase safety while creating frictionless customer experiences. We work across different research areas such as Gen AI, Computer Vision, Inventory management, Anomaly detection, Optimization and Natural Language processing (NLP).
Basic Qualifications
- PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience
- Knowledge of AWS platforms such as S3, Glue, Athena, Sagemaker
- 3+ years of investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience converting research studies into tangible real-world changes
- Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) experience is a must

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
