Job Title: Formulation ScientistJob Description
The Formulation Scientist plays a pivotal role in researching, generating, and directing new product formulations from conceptualization through development and manufacture. This position requires collaboration with sales, operations, and quality assurance teams to create innovative products that meet customer needs.
Responsibilities
+ Research and develop new product formulations.
+ Collaborate with sales to create new formulations and assist in product development.
+ Work with operations teams to troubleshoot technical and processing issues.
+ Develop proper documentation for new formulas in collaboration with the Quality Assurance department.
+ Utilize knowledge of production equipment to solve product performance issues.
+ Address challenges with tablet and capsule production, ensuring processes like coating and packaging are successful.
+ Initiate label copy for supplement facts and regulatory requirements.
+ Drive, manage, and evaluate all aspects of product development.
+ Integrate consumer insights into product innovations.
+ Collaborate with sales and marketing to develop product quotes.
+ Source and identify new concepts, ingredients, and product forms.
+ Maintain competitive knowledge of new technologies and product forms.
+ Prepare and present materials for new product launches at sales meetings.
+ Participate in product and package configurations.
+ Develop recipes and prototypes to advance new concepts.
+ Follow all company standard operating procedures (SOPs).
+ Adhere to quality control protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product quality.
+ Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.
+ Engage in PR, media interviews, and trade shows with management approval.
+ Prioritize and manage multiple customer products.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Food Science, Nutrition/Dietetics or related field.
+ Minimum of three years' hands-on experience as a Formulator in a manufacturing environment.
+ Strong working knowledge of lab techniques and cGMP standards.
+ Experience in product and formula development and evaluation.
+ Knowledge of ingredient costing and technology.
+ Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
+ Proficient in basic arithmetic and statistical methods.
+ Strong documentation skills for manufacturing activities.
+ Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Presentation skills to communicate product ideas persuasively.
+ Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with computer software, including word processors and spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Word).
+ Strong leadership skills and sound judgment.
+ Attention to detail and thoroughness in documentation.
+ Ability to prioritize effectively and manage tasks.
Work Environment
The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, or up to 100 pounds with mechanical assistance. It involves standing, walking, bending, and stooping for periods of five hours or more, and requires normal visual acuity. The position demands strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
