Job Description
Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Reentry Navigator. This is a limited fixed term full-time position within the Transformation & Reentry Through Education & Community (TREC) Program in the College of Individualized Studies with an expected ending date of February 2029.
Responsibilities:
+ Establish, develop, and maintain appropriate provider/customer relationships with program participants and other justice involved individuals, and provide advising and participant case management utilizing college resources to deliver services and make appropriate referrals for participants, with special focus on the TREC program.
+ Provide advising and participant case management utilizing additional college resources, and state and partner agency programs, to deliver services and make appropriate referrals for participants, including opportunities to engage with employers and job search assistance.
+ Initiate and facilitate communications with partners to ensure coordination of services and inter-partner communications. Work with TREC program teams, DOC and BOP Transitions and Reentry staff, Education, and other agencies to provide a smooth continuum of service for participants upon release.
+ Follow all agency policies, state statutes, and statewide policies. Support the vision, mission, goals, and initiatives of the Metro State University TREC program and its partners in the DOC, DOJ, and Minnesota State system.
Salary Range:
This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $46,372 (minimum) to $93,342 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:
+ One of the following: Master’s degree plus one year of professional experience in academic reentry from incarceration; or Bachelor’s degree plus two year of professional experience; or three years of professional experience; or an equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education, and/or professional experience.
+ Knowledge of practices and procedures pertaining to academic reentry from incarceration.
+ Ability to integrate knowledge of multiple functions, such as academic advising, career services, housing, and Department of Corrections compliance, to accomplish objectives for student success and community engagement.
+ Ability to relate the work of academic reentry to the broader work of the university.
Preferred Qualification
+ Successful experience working with higher educational institutions such as Metro State University or other Minnesota State colleges and universities.
+ Successful experience working in or with public agencies, including the Department of Corrections, workforce development, our housing services.
+ Successful experience working in or with community organizations who support justice-impacted individuals.
+ Successful case management experience.
+ Demonstrated understanding of the lived experience of reentry.
Other Requirements
**Physical Requirements of the Job:** Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently. The position may require movement throughout building(s) to a significant degree. Ability to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time, move to other offices and buildings for project planning and consultation.
**Notice** : In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a motor vehicle records check.
Telework
Working Conditions: Hybrid working environment with some on-site and some remote work. Travel throughout the Twin Cities urban region to meet with students and partners as needed.

**The School/Academic Department:** TREC is a college in prison and academic reentry program located in Metro State’s College of Individualized Studies. Founded in 2021, TREC has already awarded 67 Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies degrees to incarcerated scholars and currently works with approximately 120 incarcerated students and 20 justice impacted students on our main campus. We work in close partnership with the Minneapolis College TREC program, with whom we run academic and co-curricular programming at 3 Minnesota prisons and a collaborative reentry program that facilitates seamless transfer and continuous support for students moving from Associate’s to Bachelor’s degree programs.
