Description

We are looking for an experienced Associate General Counsel to join a growing legal team in Garden City, New York. Our mid-sized law firm spans several states and specializes in real estate and default servicing, with expertise in foreclosure, litigation, bankruptcy, evictions, and transactions / REO. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in monitoring legal and regulatory developments within this space, ensuring compliance, and drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts. This position is ideal for a meticulous legal expert with a strong business acumen who is eager to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking organization. This is a HYBRID role that offers comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities:

• Stay informed about legal and regulatory changes that impact the organization's industry and operations.

• Provide weekly updates on relevant legal changes to clients and internal stakeholders.

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts to ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.

• Assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations across various business areas.

• Collaborate with internal teams to address legal matters, ensuring risk mitigation and adherence to industry standards.

• Assist in the management of case files and legal documentation using case management and document management software.

• Handle consumer complaints and claims, ensuring timely resolution and adherence to legal requirements.

• Conduct legal briefings and provide guidance on civil litigation matters as needed.

• Support the legal team in claim administration processes and other related activities.

Requirements

+ 3+ years of legal experience

+ Must have active bar license (NY preferred)

+ Sound understanding and knowledge of real estate litigation. Preference will be given to candidates who have a default services background.

+ Excellent negotiating and drafting skills.

+ Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
