    Description of Work Unit

    The equine unit is an integral part of the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital which provides 24 hour emergency/intensive care to critically ill or injured equines at a tertiary level teaching hospital; simultaneously provide clinical instruction to professional veterinary medical students, interns, residents, veterinary technicians, graduate veterinarians and others with an emphasis on practical applications of internal medicine, anesthesia, emergency procedures, emergency surgery, endoscopy, intensive care management and neonatal critical care management.

    Position Summary

    The Johnson Family Equine Hospital at Colorado State University invites applications for a clinical administrative professional veterinary position in Equine Podiatry. Equine Podiatry provides primary and emergency medical podiatry care to clients of the Rocky Mountain region. This position will service existing clients and develop new clientele in the region. In addition to offering a clinical service, the ideal candidate must be able to provide a hands-on learning experience for veterinary students/house officers and managing the business of the equine podiatry service. The position relies on a teamwork-focused structure, while providing excellent equine care and demonstration of strong communication with clients.

     

    The successful applicant would be the primary veterinarian on the service and have support of a technician. The service is equipped with equine podiatry diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + DVM or equivalent degree

    + 3+ years’ experience in equine podiatry practice

    + Eligibility to obtain a State of Colorado Academic Veterinarian license

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Experience in teaching DVM or other graduate students

    + Experience providing excellent equine veterinary care

    + Evidence of community outreach in equine veterinary medicine

    + Strong interpersonal communication skills

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills

    + Participate in continuing education for farriers, clients, and referring veterinarians with the goal of building caseload for equine podiatry service.
