    POSITION DETAILS

    The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to students’ intellectual and personal growth.     Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean for Student Affairs will provide student-centered, innovative, and strategic leadership for a wide range of programs and services. The Dean will advance a creative, forward-thinking vision to develop new initiatives that respond to evolving student needs and trends. With a strong focus on shaping the student experience both in and out of the classroom, the Dean will work within the framework of BMCC’s mission and strategic plan. In partnership with the Vice President, the Dean will oversee and provide strategic direction for the Office of Student Affairs; Advocacy and Resource Center; Athletics (NJCAA) and Recreational Services; BMCC Association; Center for Belonging and Inclusion; Center for Career Development; College Discovery (Educational Opportunity Program); Counseling Center; Early Childhood Center; New Student and First Year Programs; Office of Accessibility; Office of Student Activities; Peer Mentoring; Student Conduct and Academic Integrity; Student Success Programs; Student Wellness and Health Services; and the Veterans Resource Center.

    The candidate will have a proven track record and experience highlighting the ability to:

    • Lead, motivate, and provide supervision and development of staff, and serve as an advocate for the needs of the Division, staff, and students.

    • Build cross-functional expertise among staff and create a synergistic team that is equipped to meet the goals of the Division, the College, and the University.

    • Establish rapport and collaborations with multiple constituencies, specifically students, faculty, alumni, staff, and external partners, to support the goals of the Division of Student Affairs and the College.

    • Use qualitative and quantitative information and ongoing assessment to make data-driven decisions.

    • Maximize technology to expand current and evolving resources and services available to students, staff and employers.

    The candidate will:

    • Serve as a project lead for select major campus events, ensuring effective planning, cross-departmental coordination, and successful execution.

    • Represent the Division of Student Affairs on college and university-wide committees, contributing insight and leadership on matters affecting the student experience.

    • Provide leadership and logistical support for major college-wide events, including commencement, orientation, registration, and honors convocation, in collaboration with campus partners.

    • Contribute to division-wide planning efforts, policy development, and special initiatives.

    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the strategic goals of the Division of Student Affairs and the mission of the College.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • An earned doctorate in student personnel administration, higher education, or a related field preferred.

    • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant administrative and supervisory experience.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in Student Affairs and higher education, with a focus on research, assessment, and data-informed decision-making.

    • Proven success in developing and implementing student programs that serve a diverse student population.

    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

    • Willingness and ability to work evening hours and weekends as needed.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media, learning platforms, and other relevant technologies.

    • Experience working with community college student populations.

    • Familiarity with current higher education practices, theory, research, policy, and law.

    • A dynamic, student-centered approach and demonstrated commitment to providing courteous and accurate service to students, visitors, and members of the campus community.

    • Record of successful college-wide collaboration and engagement with diverse campus and external constituencies.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary range is $155,000 - 160,000,commensurate with education and experience.
