    Overview

     

    This is a fulltime role with 3-4 days on site.

     

    The Director of Procurement is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all functions related to procurement, expediting, product recalls, product shortage management, and vendor relations management. Ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of medical-surgical supplies, capital equipment, fleet and related services while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, vendor performance standards, and clinical care needs. Engages in a high degree of collaboration and communication with internal and external partners to meet the business needs supporting all D-HH affiliates and subsidiaries.

    Responsibilities

    * Lead, direct, and manage a centralized purchasing team for Dartmouth Health system-wide, including hospitals, ambulatory centers, and clinics.

    * Supervise staff, allocate tasks, hold regularly scheduled team meetings.

    * Develop and implement sourcing and procurement strategies aligned with organizational priorities, clinical needs, and cost-containment goals.

    * Oversee the end-to-end purchasing lifecycle, including requisitioning, PO processing, expediting, delivery follow-up, receiving coordination and match exceptions.

    * Manage processes related to product shortages, recalls, alerts, and substitutions in coordination with clinical and safety teams.

    * Partner with internal stakeholders (clinical, finance, legal, compliance) to support high-quality and compliant purchasing decisions.

    * Develop and maintain purchasing policies and procedures.

    * Evaluate and monitor vendor performance, contracts, pricing accuracy, service levels, and compliance of all agreements with internal Contracting team.

    * Develop, track and audit key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting dashboards to track purchasing metrics, savings, backorders, and service levels.

    * Ensure that purchasing operations (controls) meet all applicable regulatory, legal, and accreditation standards.

    * Mentor and develop a high-performing team of buyers, analysts, purchasing specialists, and materials management information system analysts.

    * Support integration and standardization efforts across acquired or affiliated facilities and clinics.

    * Collaborate with Service Lines, Finance and supply chain departments to understand the “voice of the customer”, including their respective needs and requirements

    * Work with supply chain departments to ensure accurate information is maintained in appropriate electronic files and databases, including PeopleSoft.

    * Implement continuous process improvement mindset to drive operational efficiencies.

    * Educates staff regarding proper use of the materials management information system (MMIS).

    * Maintains professional growth and development of self and team.

    * Performs other duties as required or assigned

    Qualifications

    * Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred.

    * Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare procurement or supply chain within a large hospital or health system.

    * Deep knowledge of healthcare purchasing systems, GPOs (e.g., Vizient, Premier), and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle/PeopleSoft, Workday, Lawson, Infor).

    * Proficiency in Microsoft applications.

    * Demonstrated success in vendor management, contract management, and driving purchasing standardization.

    * Familiarity with recall and shortage management, product substitutions, and regulatory compliance (FDA, CMS, TJC).

    * Proven leadership and communication skills to manage cross-functional teams and build strong internal and external partnerships.

    * Hybrid position requiring onsite support for internal and external stakeholder and the ability to travel to system locations as needed.

    * Certification in supply chain/Healthcare (e.g., CMRP, CPSM, CPHQ, CSCP) strongly preferred.

    * Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with various levels of management within DH

    * Strong organizational skills

    * Proficiency in data analysis and financial acumen.

    * Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    * Good presentation, leadership, and management skills

    * Ability to effect and manage change agents

    * Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.

    * Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards
