General Requirements:
Associate degree in a related field. Three years of experience in military education benefits, VA compliance, or higher education student services. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Serves as a designated School Certifying Official ( SCO ) responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to veterans’ education benefits. This role provides specialized certification services that support enrollment, academic progress tracking, and timely communication with VA and state agencies to secure student benefits.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Performs complex certification duties as a designated SCO in compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Texas Veterans Commission ( TVC ) regulations. Certifies enrollment, academic status, and tuition and fees for VA education benefits and Hazlewood exemptions using Enrollment Manager and other systems. Audits student schedules, program alignment, and prior training evaluations to ensure benefit eligibility and compliance. Reviews and monitors continuing eligibility, reporting enrollment changes, withdrawals, and graduation data as required by regulatory agencies. Maintains detailed and compliant records of certifications, communications, and benefit transactions in accordance with federal and institutional standards. Collaborates with internal units (e.g., Registrar, Financial Aid, SAS , Academic Advising) to resolve discrepancies that may impact student eligibility or benefit disbursement. Acts as the point of contact for escalated or complex certification cases, providing direct guidance to students, families, and internal staff regarding regulations, deadlines, and processes. Serves as a subject-matter expert on VA and Hazlewood policy updates and supports training for department staff and other campus stakeholders. Prepares compliance documentation for VA audits and contributes to internal audit readiness. Supports continuous improvement of certification procedures and system workflows for efficiency and compliance. Participates in professional development and regulatory training to remain current on federal and state benefit programs. Performs other related duties
