Responsibilities
The Supply Chain Item Master Specialist is responsible for the accurate creation, and maintenance of the item master data within the procurement system. This role ensures that item records are complete and standardized. This role will also collaborate closely with the suppliers as well as the clinical and purchasing teams to ensure products are appropriately reflected in the system and readily available to our centers across the enterprise. The successful candidate will have a solid background in project management and extensive training experience. Additionally, the candidate must be results oriented, analytical, versatile, and motivated with sound judgment and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
+ Maintain Accurate Item Master Data - Create, update, and manage item records within the procurement system, ensuring accurate descriptions, units of measure (UOM), vendor information, pricing, and classifications for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and capital equipment.
+ Data Quality and Integrity – Assist in routine audits to identify and correct duplicate, inactive, or outdated records. Validate and enrich item data using manufacturer catalogs, GPOs, and industry standards (e.g., UNSPSC, GTIN)
+ Price and Contract Validation - Ensure that item pricing aligns with contracts and agreements with suppliers and Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs). Coordinate with sourcing to ensure cost accuracy and contract compliance.
+ Product Conversions - Support product conversions by updating item records, mapping cross references to ensure smooth transitions.
Qualifications
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience in item master data management within a healthcare setting (hospital, health system, IDN, or medical supply distributor) preferred
+ Experience working with medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, or capital equipment preferred.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, VLOOKUPs, and PivotTables) and other data analysis tools.
+ Working knowledge of item classification systems such as UNSPSC, GTIN, and manufacturer part numbers.
+ Experience with data quality management, data cleansing, and auditing techniques.
+ Comfortable navigating vendor catalogs, GPO databases, and regulatory data sources.
+ Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with clinical teams, supply chain, finance, and external vendors.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
+ Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
