The DNP Nurse Anesthesia (NA) Director serves as the leader of the DNP Nurse Anesthesia track and is responsible for the overall operations of the track at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. The NA Director has a direct reporting relationship to the Director of the DNP Program and works collaboratively with the Program Directors, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Associate Dean for Faculty Development, and members of the Graduate Curriculum committee to continually evaluate, improve and deliver the curriculum with innovative and high-quality graduate education methods consistent with the mission, values and strategic goals of the SON, University and profession.

Major Responsibilities

Leadership

- Maintains current knowledge of specialty accreditation (COA and CCNE) and credentialing standards and ensures that the curriculum is aligned to meet them

- Collects, reviews, and disseminates population-specific data (from HelioCampus and other sources), practice trends, population-specific requirements, graduation/certification rates, programmatic evaluations, etc., to ensure the curriculum remains contemporary.

- Uses assessment data to inform and improve student learning and the overall curriculum.

- Collaborates with Academic Affairs in preparing regulatory and accreditation reports.

- Acts as an active member of the respective curriculum committee/s, track director, and other relevant meetings.

- Engages in professional organizations to represent the school and collaborates with colleagues at other schools to advance innovation in nursing education.

- Coordinates and disseminates pertinent information to faculty and instructors in the track.

Teaching/Learning

- Utilize innovative teaching methodologies, technology-enhanced learning strategies, and simulation-based experiences to facilitate student learning and achievement of program outcomes

- Provides input to the DNP program director on courses to be offered each semester and the mode of delivery

- Leads the development of track goals and ongoing monitoring of the track

- Provides input to the DNP program director and curriculum committee regarding the development, ongoing evaluation, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the track

- Participates in school and university committees

- Engages in professional organizations to represent the school and collaborates with colleagues at other schools to advance nursing education related to the track

- Maintains student records in accordance with the COA and NBCRNA

- Collaborates with the advisor(s) on audits of student didactic and clinical progression, as relevant, to support timely progression and program completion.

- Guides new faculty and serves as a resource within the respective track to help facilitate orientation.

- In collaboration with the DNP Program Director and Associate Director/s, makes teaching assignments for the year to ensure coverage in all courses in the track, including assessing the need for part-time/TLC instructors . S eeks and initiates the vetting and contract process to fill these roles.

Student Recruitment and Retention

- Collaborates with the admissions team to recruit a high-quality and diverse pool of applicants.

- Participates in recruitment, orientation, graduation, and other special events.

- Addresses student issues and concerns as needed.

- Analyzes track for capacity and monitors enrollment, retention, and progression of students.

- Uses data to recommend resources, policy, or practice changes to increase student success and retention.

Fiscal

- Oversees and maintains the track budget in a fiscally responsible manner

- Develops a yearly budget in collaboration with the DNP program director and business office

- Provides input into the budget process to ensure adequate resources are available for the track.

Director Term:

- The director generally serves a three-year term, which may be extended if mutually agreeable to the track director/DNP program director and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

- The NA director must be a certified registered nurse anesthetist, have an earned doctorate awarded from a college or university that is accredited by a nationally recognized institutional accreditor

- Experience: 2 years of clinical experience minimum

- Be a full-time faculty member with an appointment of Assistant Professor or higher rank

- Current NBCRNA certification as a certified registered nurse anesthetist with licensure in Maryland

This position is a hybrid position that requires 2-3 days onsite each week.

Salary: Starting rates based on rank Instructor: $230,000, Assistant Professor: $250,000 Associate Professor: $270,000

Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
