Position Title:
Master Locksmith

Job Responsibilities:
+ Installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of locks, keys, and locking mechanisms across the RIT campus.
+ Meets with parties during building construction to map out core codes needed for new or renovated building. Completes project requests for locking systems from estimates to billing. Meets with requesters and vendors to research locking systems and develops recommendations for locking systems solutions. Completes and/or coordinates installations.
+ Manages materials, parts, and equipment, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement.
+ Provides immediate response as requested for building related maintenance emergencies. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
+ Serves as a lead and mentor and provides guidance to the Locksmith II. Inspects work for quality and progress. Provides feedback to supervisors on performance. Provides training to staff on new and existing regulations/guidelines/procedures.
+ Other duties as assigned.

_The schedule for this position could encompass various shifts, weekends, holidays, and times other than normal work schedules. The successful candidate must provide contact information to be used for an on-call phone listing for reporting to work in off hours or urgent situations such as extreme weather conditions including when the campus is closed._
Education & Experience
+ High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
+ 5 yrs experience in a locksmith, building maintenance, or equivalent field in a commercial, industrial, or institutional setting.
Skills
+ Basic mechanical skills and ability to safely operate all equipment including, but not limited to trucks, utility vehicles, hand tools, and power tools. Ability to maintain door hardware equipment and specialty lock shop tools.
+ Fine hand-eye coordination skills to handle key cutting and pinning core assemblies.
+ Ability to use software to manage key records. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and E-mail.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead repairs and small projects from conception to implementation. Ability to work independently and take initiative to plan, prioritize, schedule, and execute a variety of repairs that must be completed simultaneously and on time.
+ Ability to understand the needs of the customer and communicate effectively with them to resolve issues that may arise.
+ Demonstrated ability to communicate job expectations, plan, monitor, and appraise job performance of Locksmith II and student positions.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Consistently work safely following all relative OSHA, DEC and EPA standards, laws and regulations.
+ Must be able to work in irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, dirt, dust, unpleasant odors, and loud noises while utilizing appropriate PPE.
+ Able to work from various ladders up to 30 feet tall, including scaffolds and 40 foot man-lifts.
+ Able to lift 50 lbs.
+ The successful candidate hired for this position will be required to drive on occasion, and therefore will be required, upon hire, to immediately enroll in the NYS LENS program. The Master Locksmith is part of the FMS Maintenance Services team that is responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance on all interior and exterior building components. The Master Locksmith is responsible for maintaining and installing locking systems. Completing project requests from estimates to billing. Providing keys to Institute facilities, and maintaining keying records and systems.
