POSITION SUMMARY
The AvantGarde, LLC (AG) SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for implementing, configuring, maintaining, and performing critical SQL Server databases to ensure the availability and consistent performance of mission-critical applications at the U.S. Capitol Police (Legislative Branch) Office of Information Systems (OIS). Work will be performed in a hybrid arrangement of remote, home-based (2 days), and onsite (3 days) in Washington, DC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Upload and store all project work in the appropriate project SharePoint file.
• Administers, maintains, and optimizes SQL database servers and instances to ensure maximum uptime, reliability, performance, and security.
• Responsible for database design, installation, configuration, backup and recovery, high availability solutions, disaster recovery planning, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Collaborates with developers, system administrators, and IT leadership to support database-related needs.
• Provides guidance on best practices for database usage, security, and compliance.
• Execute data loads and perform data modeling, supporting multiple teams and customers.
• Analyze, solve, and correct any SQL server database issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
• Evaluate and optimize database configuration and access.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with at least 5 years specifically managing SQL Server databases in complex enterprise environments.
• Microsoft SQL Server Certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSA: SQL Database Administration) strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications.
• Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
ADA Specifications
• Operation of a PC in an office environment.
• This is a primarily sedentary position.
• Some bending, light lifting, and carrying of equipment may be required.
