NDE Level I Technician

HMT is currently seeking a motivated NDE Level I Technician to join our team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals who demonstrate punctuality, accountability, and a strong desire to grow within the nondestructive examination (NDE) field. The Level I Technician will assist in piping inspection projects, prioritizing tasks such as taking UT readings, learning basic NDE methods, maintaining equipment, and supporting report deliverables (e.g., isometric drawings, quality photos, data entry, and job forms). The role requires a commitment to learning the various components of inspection operations, fitting in where needed, and working toward basic NDE certifications. Candidates are expected to choose a career path in advanced Ultrasonic Testing (UT), API piping inspection, or a combination of both, gaining valuable experience along the way. The technician will maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and professional relationships with clients and team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Assist in NDE inspections, primarily performing basic Ultrasonic Testing (UT) readings and learning other NDE methods (e.g., Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Leak Testing/Bubble Testing (LT/BT)) as needed.
+ Support piping inspection projects by completing tasks such as isometric drawings, quality photo taking, data entry, and job form completion to ensure successful, efficient, and timely job execution.
+ Prioritize equipment maintenance and inventory, including cleaning and organizing equipment, marking and delivering equipment for repair, and maintaining an up-to-date equipment inventory list.
+ Assist the tank inspection group when needed, with priority given to the piping inspection group's requirements.
+ Collect and process inspection data in accordance with HMT and client protocols.
+ Safely operate vehicles within oil and gas facilities and field locations.
+ Use standard computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel) for reporting and documentation.
+ Maintain professional and positive working relationships with clients, site personnel, and coworkers.
+ Ensure adherence to all HMT safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
+ Documented classroom training and/or relevant field experience in NDE, with a focus on basic UT methods.
+ Ability to meet HMT certification standards for basic NDE methods.
+ Technical proficiency in learning and applying current inspection codes and standards.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Self-motivated with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
+ Clean driving record and valid driver's license from state of residence.
+ Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
+ Must pass DISA background check and drug/alcohol screening.
+ Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
+ Current CPR and First Aid certification.
+ TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
+ Current AOCF and/or PMT III (DOT OQ).
+ Valid respirator fit test.
+ OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification.
+ JLG lift operator certification (subject to HMT Safety Department approval).
+ Recent (within the last 12 months) safety training, including but not limited to: Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication (HazCom).
