    Overview

     

    The **Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW)** is the largest municipally-owned gas utility in the nation, supplying gas service in the City of Philadelphia to over 500,000 customers. From its humble beginnings in 1836, PGW has grown into the large, modern facility that exists today. As one of the nation's leading natural gas providers, PGW prides itself on stability and continual growth.     The PGW Internship Program is designed for students currently enrolled FULL-TIME at an accredited college or university with a sophomore classification or above ONLY.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop a plan to take PGW's fueling stations out‐of‐service in a regulatory compliant manner.

    + Assist with routine analysis to support operations (i.e. natural gas, LNG, odorant, glycol, etc.).

    + Assist with natural gas odorization services (i.e. DTEX calibration, MEDOR service, odor fade).

    + Assist with regulated materials/waste management services (i.e. hazardous waste inventory).

    + Assist with permit and regulatory compliance services relating to storage tanks, water discharge.

    + Assist with industrial hygiene services (i.e. asbestos/lead surveys & abatement, air qualitysurveys).

    + Assist with record‐keeping, archiving of data, and laboratory maintenance.

    Qualifications

    + Must be pursuing a BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Services, or other related field;

    + Have the ability to work at least 16‐20 hours per week (no weekends);

    + Must have verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees;

    + Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office;

    + Must be in good academic standing
