HOURS: Full Time (40 hours/week) Evening Shift. 2:30 pm-11:00 pm Mon-Friday. No weekends. Ability to flex when needed.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for ensuring high quality services and operations related to lab collections in a hospital setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
+ Monitor and direct daily operations including staff schedules, workflow, supply inventory, patient care, equipment function, and intra- plus inter- departmental communications.
+ Supervise phlebotomy staff and complete performance evaluations, coordinate disciplinary corrective actions monitor competencies, and manage time and attendance records.
+ Serve as subject matter expert in resolution of operational issues, and a resource for expertise in venipuncture practice.
+ Oversee the on-boarding, orientation, and training of new staff members in regard to inpatient phlebotomy department staff and department specific training.
+ Optimize fiscal responsibility and stewardship.
+ Serve as Lab leadership within the scope of practice to the organization.
+ Demonstrate a working knowledge of Information Technology systems as they apply to the department. Provide direction to staff and others in episodes of information system downtime.
+ Maintain responsibility for ensuring compliance to quality and accreditation standards. Ensure effective change control in implementation of new policies, technology, or procedural changes. Assist in the development of policies and procedures.
+ Facilitate and provide over-site in initial investigation of exception situations, equipment failure, or other adverse events. Document any such events and escalate resolution through additional resources with appropriate judgement and urgency.
+ Work as Phlebotomy Technician when needed.
+ Provide customer service including service recovery.
+ Communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, providers, and staff.
+ Interview and contribute to the selection of staff in conjunction with the Lab Supervisor and Manager.
+ Inform the Lab Supervisor and Manager of daily activities, events, and patient concerns.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
+ Serve on committees and task forces as requested. Work with varied intra- and inter- departmental teams to assure care continuity and process improvement.
+ Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required.
+ Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School/GED graduate
+ Combined three (3) years phlebotomy experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
+ One (1) year experience with basic keyboarding, and office setting equipment.
+ One (1) year experience using medical terminology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Technology.
+ Associates or Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory or Life sciences.
+ Support or technical leadership experience in a clinical setting.
