Plant 80 | SewOn Operator | Shift 2

Position Overview

Position Objective:

+ To maintain a continuous flow of carpet through the coater by sewing rolls of carpet together properly and in a timely manner. To monitor carpet sewn-on and send all necessary information to the Roll-Up in the correct coating sequence.

Essential Duties:

Sewing Seams

+ If the carpet is in a float, pull the end of the top roll over the float. If the carpet is in a roll, pull the carpet tail off the roll.

+ Check carpet to be sewn-on for moisture or any other defects. If any defects are observed complete the flashback Google Doc and consult supervisor.

+ Align the carpet on the sewing machine table with the selvage edges straight and even. Trim out any existing seams.

+ Insert a T-92 ticket to the seam area and sew carpet from float to tail of carpet going onto the coater.

+ When the sewing machine runs out of thread or the thread breaks, replace the thread or rethread the machine.

+ A red tag will be sewn into the seam at every style change.

+ Metal foil tape will be placed at seams for seam detection.

+ Assist the Lift Truck Operator in measuring the width of the carpet on each M.O.

+ Manage J-Boxes

+ Advance fabric into the J-boxes keeping the fabric as straight as possible.

+ Watch for open seams, holes, and torn places in carpet. Place tape over any holes in carpet.

+ Watch for and straighten any carpet that comes out of either J-box folded on the edge.

+ Inform coater operator when J-box is running low.

Must be able to:

+ Read and write legibly

+ Have good communication skills

+ Communicate in English to supervisor and employees by phone or 2-way radio

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts PM
