JOB SUMMARY
Ortho Technicians help orthopedic surgeons, who are physicians trained to treat and operate on the skeletal system. Ortho Technicians assist with patient care and may also be responsible for paperwork. An Orthopedic Technician is an integral part of a team that is involved with healing bones. Casting and fixing bones is a hard procedure that is the responsibility of a trained professional, but it almost always requires assistance.
By maintaining high standards of excellence, a qualified Ortho Technicians will demonstrate the ability to support and further a patient-centered care culture. PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
+ Perform a variety of orthopedic related activities including applying and removing dressings, removing sutures/staples, applying, and removing casts and splints.
+ Assist physician in back-office duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs and patient history, and assisting with minor procedures.
+ Adhere to prescription refill protocol.
+ Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
+ Perform basic triage per specific office protocol procedures.
+ Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
+ Maintain work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications, and immunizations.
+ Perform associated clerical tasks including scheduling, filing, recalls, etc.
+ Work as a team member within the orthopedics department and all other departments.
+ Document work processes as required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Medical Assistant - Certified:
Education
+ High School Graduate or Equivalent.
+ Completion of a Medical Assistant program.
Training and Experience
+ MA with at least one-year appropriate experience in an orthopedic setting preferred.
+ Knowledge of medical Terminology.
+ Washington State Medical Assistant Certification
+ Certification by the National Association of Orthopedic Technicians.
+ Must be state certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Medical Assistant - Registered:
Education Requirements:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or an equivalent combination of coursework, experience/training.
Training & Experience:
+ 1 year - Medical assistant experience in a clinic setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Requirements:
+ Submission of the Medical Assistant – Registered Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement with the Washington Department of Health within 7 days of the start date.
+ Copy of Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to Human Resources.
+ Active Washington Medical Assistant Registration within 60 days of hire
+ Copy of written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.
+ Completion of all assigned unit/department specific checklists, including applicable CLIA competencies, supervised by a Healthcare Practitioner within 60 days of hire.
+ Copy of all checklists and competencies to Human Resources.
+ Certification by the National Association of Orthopedic Technicians.
+ Current BLS certification required.
+ Responsible for completing and submitting an updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to the Washington State Department of Health within 30 days of any changes made to delegated duties or supervision of a healthcare practitioner.
+ Responsible for sending a copy of any updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement as well as written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.

+ Computer proficiency to a level whereby the hospital documentation system can be used quickly and efficiently.
+ Ability to think critically and analytically, and function independently.
+ Solid oral and written communication skills.
+ Detail oriented.
+ Strong customer service skills.
+ Ability to establish and maintain positive team relationships.
+ Ability to follow directions and delegation from medical and nursing staff.

Wage Range: $28.892 - $46.689
