    Job Description

    We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). All applications are considered and reviewed.     Qualifications:

    + Valid Washington State special education teaching certificate appropriate for grade level and area, with specific training in developmental disabilities to include Deafness/Hard of Hearing

    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, Master’s preferred

    + Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse

    + Ability to use American Sign Language with proficiency

    + Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool

    Essential Functions:

    + Successful teaching and/or training experience with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students

    + Ability to develop and implement Language acquisition programs

    + Experience with reviewing research and provide professional development to peers related to strategies/ methodologies/techniques to best serve Deaf/HH students

    + Ability to coordinate a team consisting of teachers, staff assistants, related service providers, and/or other community resources

    + Familiarity with a wide variety of techniques and instructional methods which may be used in teaching reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics, social skills, communication and social skills

    + Knowledge of effective supports for FM users, Students with cochlear implants, hearing aids and ASL users

    + Ability to use computers for instruction, IEPs, and assessment

    + Experience in administering and interpreting a wide variety of diagnostic tools relevant to the students to be served

    + Experience in collaboration with teams presenting the educational impact of a hearing loss for students

    + Experience with strategies for teaching Deaf/HH students

    + Fluency in American Sign Language

    + Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities

    + Ability to create a positive educational climate in the classroom and with colleagues

    + Ability to utilize and evaluate interpretive feedback

    + Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

    Benefits/Compensation:

    + Salary range: $63,868 – 120,382 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

    + Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement.     + Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits.     + Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here (https://www.drs.wa.gov/) .

    + Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military and bereavement leave.

    + Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
