Description

The Controller’s primary responsibility is to provide support in maintaining the financial integrity by ensuring the accurate and timely accounting of the company's finances and investments according to the organization’s policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, implementation of appropriate controls, budgets and processes to mitigate financial risk, support of all tax compliance requirements, and the coordination of the information technology needs of the organization.

Position Duties

• Manage timely payment of invoices and posting of revenues and expenses.

• Assist with the preparation of financial and investment reports, tax preparation, and audits.

• Monitor grants payable and grant projections. Coordinate due diligence efforts before grant disbursements are made.

• Assist with financial analysis of prospective grantmaking opportunities as needed.

• Interface with other departments to ensure accuracy and operational efficiency.

• Process semi-monthly office payroll and submit required employer reports.

• Oversee effective implementation of company and employee insurance, along with employee retirement plan.

• Manage all accounting software and maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.

• Work with Treasurer to prepare annual budgets; assist in calculation of cash flow projections

• Assist with compliance of internal policies and local, state, and federal laws relating to reporting, tax compliance, audit and banking procedures, and distribution requirements.

• Perform other duties as assigned to increase the capacity of the office.

Requirements

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, along with at least five years’ experience in a similar role. Certified Public Accountant designation highly preferred.

• Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office.

• Broad knowledge of accounting principles; strong understanding of financial data analysis. Preference will go to candidates with some understanding of non-profit finance and accounting principles.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records.

• Strong analytical, communication, writing, and organizational skills.

• Ability to take lead with minimal supervision; able to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities.

• Demonstrated ability to identify procedural problems or inefficiencies and to recommend and implement improvements.

• Positive outlook, energy, and diplomacy; flexibility in the face of changing priorities.
