Are you an experienced accounting leader with a passion for driving financial excellence in the real estate investment trust (REIT) industry?
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Vice President of Accounting to lead and transform our clients’ accounting operations. This high-impact role offers the opportunity to work alongside senior leadership, providing strategic financial guidance while ensuring compliance with REIT-specific regulations and standards.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual with deep expertise in REIT accounting, SEC compliance, and hands-on leadership to play a pivotal role in our growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead Accounting Operations: Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly financial close processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
+ Financial Reporting: Prepare and review accurate, timely financial statements in adherence to GAAP and SEC requirements with a REIT focus.
+ Tax Compliance: Ensure thorough compliance with REIT tax regulations, including managing quarterly distribution requirements and annual compliance testing.
+ Audit and Controls: Manage external audits, SOX compliance, and develop/improve internal controls to foster financial integrity and accountability.
+ Strategic Financial Analysis: Partner with senior leadership to support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis at both corporate and property levels.
+ Capital Allocation: Collaborate with leadership on capital allocation decisions to optimize resource deployment and shareholder value.
+ People Leadership: Supervise and mentor an accounting team, cultivating a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Required Experience and Qualifications
+ REIT Industry Expertise (Mandatory): The ideal candidate must bring current and substantial REIT-specific experience, as this expertise is crucial to the role and the team.
+ Proven experience in a Controller or other senior accounting leadership role, with a track record of hands-on management and staff supervision.
+ Active CPA designation - this is non-negotiable and essential for success in this position.
+ Strong familiarity with REIT-related accounting practices, tax requirements, and regulatory standards (GAAP and SEC).

Requirements • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
• Expertise in REIT-specific accounting practices, including IRS Form 1120-REIT.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, including annual audited financial statements and SEC compliance.
• Proficiency in accounting systems such as NetSuite.
• Experience managing internal and external audits.
• Exceptional skills in month-end close processes, budgeting, and variance analysis.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
