    Description

    We are seeking a Level 1 Data Center Infrastructure Technician to join our client's colocation facility operations team. This is a Smart Hands role that supports clients and internal teams with a strong focus on Layer 1 physical infrastructure tasks, including structured cabling, hardware installation, and racking/de-racking of equipment. The role also includes light Layer 2 network support, such as basic port testing and switch patching under direction. This position is onsite in Las Vegas, NV and interested candidates must be open to all shifts.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Physical Infrastructure (Layer 1):

    + Perform racking, stacking, and decommissioning of servers, switches, routers, and storage devices

    + Terminate and test copper and fiber optic cabling (Cat6, LC/SC, SM/MM, etc.)

    + Trace cables and label infrastructure according to documentation standards

    + Install cable management (trays, ties, velcro) and maintain clean cabling practices

    + Escort and assist vendors during equipment installs, removals, or audits

    Basic Network Support (Layer 2):

    + Perform port labeling and patch cable moves per customer or NOC instructions

    + Assist with Layer 2 troubleshooting (e.g., link light testing, basic loopback testing)

    + Document switch port connections and help verify link status

    Operations & Smart Hands:

    + Respond to remote customer Smart Hands requests via ticketing system

    + Replace hard drives, memory, and hot-swappable components per instructions

    + Conduct visual equipment inspections and environmental checks

    + Power cycle equipment and confirm status via console or LED indicators

    Documentation & Compliance:

    + Maintain accurate records of work performed and asset inventories

    + Follow data center access, safety, and security protocols

    + Complete checklists, work orders, and status reports for all activities

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    + 1+ years of hands-on experience in a data center, NOC, or IT infrastructure role preferred

    + Knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA) and cable types (Cat5e/6, fiber)

    + Basic understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking concepts (MAC address, VLANs, link light, port status)

    + Comfortable using tools like cable testers, fiber scope, punch-down tools, and labeling devices

    + Familiar with basic ticketing systems and remote instructions

    + Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and perform physical tasks in a data center environment

    + Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and customer service orientation

    + Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends as needed

    •Preferred Certifications (not required):

    + CompTIA Network+

    + BICSI Installer 1 or equivalent

    + OSHA 10 (General Industry)
