QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

**Required:** Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

**Preferred:** Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Experience:

**Preferred:** Two years of ultrasound experience

Other Skills/Knowledge:

**Required:** For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

**Required:** Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate, or registry eligible. If registry eligible, must obtain registration within 12 months of hire date.

**LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:** Basic Life Support

**POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:** Neonates, Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

**Professional Commitment Requirements:** Keep abreast of developments in the field and/or licensure through continuing education, participation in professional organizations or a combination of both

**On-call:** Rotation required

**Schedule requirements:** Required to regularly rotate through days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary

**Travel requirements:** May be scheduled at any of the radiology locations

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

+ Reports to the Ultrasound/Vascular Supervisor

+ Not responsible for supervising the work of others

JOB FUNCTIONS

As part of the Radiology team, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer:

+ **Perform Diagnostic Sonography Exams:** Conduct ultrasound examinations, adjusting procedures based on findings, and differentiating between normal and pathological results.

+ **Analyze and Communicate Findings:** Interpret sonograms and communicate technical findings to physicians for use in diagnosis.

+ **Patient Care:** Educate patients about procedures and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the process.

+ **Maintain Equipment and Environment:** Prepare exam rooms, maintain ultrasound equipment, and ensure a clean and safe work environment.

+ **Collaborate with Healthcare Team:** Communicate effectively with other medical professionals, including physicians, to coordinate patient care.

+ **Coordinate Work Schedule:** Assist with daily operations, including scheduling to ensure adequate coverage.

+ It is anticipated that the employee will have contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials while performing their job duties

+ Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning.
