About this Job
The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an Assistant Attorney General (1-6). As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Assistant Attorney General 1-6, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.
Positions may be domiciled in various parishes throughout the state. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug testing, and reference verifications.This is a continuous announcement; therefore, applications will be reviewed as received. Civil Division:The Civil Division provides legal representation to the state, its departments and agencies, boards and commissions, and statewide elected officials. The Civil Division is comprised of the Governmental/Litigation, Education, Public Finance, Environmental, Lands, and Natural Resources sections. The Civil Division also serves:
+ Collections: The Collections section represents public colleges, universities, agencies, boards and commissions for the State in pursuit of the monies owed these entities.
Criminal Division: The Criminal Division assists federal, state, and local agencies in the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of criminal matters. The Criminal Division is comprised of White-Collar Crimes, Violent Crime and Drug Unit, Sexual Predator Apprehension Team, and the Insurance Fraud Unit. The Criminal Division also serves:
+ Medicaid Fraud Control Unit: The Louisiana Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) has the responsibility to investigate and prosecute all types of fraud perpetrated by providers of medical services in the Medicaid program. The MFCU also investigates and prosecutes allegations of abuse, and neglect of residents in health care facilities.
Federalism Division: The Solicitor General’s office within the Federalism Division coordinates the involvement of the Attorney General’s Office in cases before the United States Supreme Court, assists the Louisiana Department of Justice in preparing and presenting appellate cases in state and federal courts, directly handles select appeals, and coordinates the involvement of the Attorney General's Office with Amicus Curiae briefs.
Gaming Division: The Gaming Division represents the state and all agencies and boards with jurisdiction over gaming matters and regulation for riverboat gaming, land-based gaming, slots-at-the-track gaming, and video poker.
Litigation Division: The Litigation Division provides legal representation to the State of Louisiana and state employees in tort claims seeking damages in the areas of Civil Rights, General Liability, Medical Malpractice, Road Hazard, Transportation, and Worker's Compensation.
Public Protection Division: The Public Protection division handles complaints from consumers about businesses, resolves disputes, administers and enforces fair housing laws, manages insurance liquidations, and enforces state laws related to tobacco sales to ensure consumers are protected from unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana;
+ Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association;
+ Should possess excellent written/oral advocacy and interpersonal skills;
+ Travel may be required (including overnight travel) for state wide court appearances and to attend continuing education and other conferences, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Demonstrated ability to handle litigations in both federal and state courts;
+ Prior trial experience.
Job Duties and Other Information
The position of Assistant Attorney General 1-6 within the LADOJ will include, but are not limited to, the following duties:
+ Serve as the primary or secondary prosecutor on all assigned cases in all phases of prosecution from assignment through final disposition;
+ Perform legal research and draft pleadings, correspondence, or other documents in order to represent the State of Louisiana;
+ Requires attention to detail, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality of service to the State of Louisiana;
+ Punctuality and attendance at all meetings and court appearances, maintain regular work hours, and overtime when necessary to accomplish the task(s) at hand;
+ Perform all work in compliance with the Louisiana Constitution, Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure, Federal Administrative Procedure Act (APA), any applicable rules of the court, and all other codes of professionalism and ethics;
+ Any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
