    Sexual Assault Forensic Response Coordinator (Registered Nurse)

    • Victim Assistance Section

     

    Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks a Program Planner 3 in the Victim Assistance Section to serve as the Sexual Assault Forensic Response Coordinator (Registered Nurse).

    Description:

    The position requires the Sexual Assault Forensic Response Coordinator to ensure the Statewide Sexual Assault Examiner Program runs effectively and in accordance with Iowa law, primarily Iowa Code section 915.46. This program serves victims of sexual assault, qualified providers, and sexual assault nurse examiners throughout the State of Iowa.

    The Sexual Assault Forensic Response Coordinator must be willing and able to:

    (1) facilitate the Sexual Assault Examiner Program’s Advisory Committee meetings;

     

    (2) create in-person and online sexual assault trainings for sexual assault nurse examiners and other medical personnel;

     

    (3) collaborate with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault to create and provide didactic and clinical training opportunities in all six sexual assault regions, create and update materials to be provided to victims and non-offending parents, provide technical assistance upon request, and regularly update statewide sexual assault examiner and sexual assault nurse examiner protocols;

     

    (4) the candidate will create and teach an in-person and online 40-hour course consistent with the sexual assault forensic examiner education guidelines established by the International Association of Nurse Examiners;

     

    (5) create and teach mock sexual assault examinations;

     

    (6) apply for Continuing Education Unit credits;

     

    (7) recommend and draft policies and procedures for carrying out the program as well as advises the manager and section chief on program needs; and

     

    (8) complete other duties as assigned by management.

    Requirements and Preferences:

    Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and have an active and unrestricted registered nurse license in Iowa.

     

    Candidates should have at least three years related experience in sexual assault forensic nursing.

     

    The most competitive candidates will be Qualified Providers in Iowa who hold – or have held – SANE-A and/or SANE-P certification(s). Candidates must be victim-centered and supportive of law enforcement, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have experience with presenting and training, and be proficient with Microsoft Office and computers in general.

     

    The person serving in this role must be friendly and courteous, have familiarity with the criminal justice system, and a passion for helping crime victims. Possessing excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, being able to work with little supervision to execute guidance from the manager and section chief and having time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines is required. Must be willing and able to travel throughout Iowa.

    Candidate is not required to reside in the Des Moines Metro area but must be willing to commute at least two days a week for in-office hours.

     

    Annual salary ranges from $60,548.80 - $92,185.60, depending on experience. Candidate will be eligible to collect reimbursement as a qualified provider during non-scheduled work hours.

     

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    1) Seven years of full-time work experience in the administration or operation/execution (i.e., providing consultation and/or technical assistance to stakeholders, research and analysis, or enforcement of program guidelines/policies/procedures) of a program (i.e., the provision of a service or an administrative oversight/enforcement responsibility).

    2) All of the following (a, b, and c):

    a. One year of full-time work experience in the administration or operation/execution (i.e., providing consultation and/or technical assistance to stakeholders, research and analysis, or enforcement of program guidelines/policies/procedures) of a program (i.e., the provision of a service or an administrative oversight/enforcement responsibility); and

    b. A total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and

    c. A total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

     

    3) Graduation from an accredited school of law.

     

    4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes nine months of full-time work as a Program Planner 2 or twenty-seven months of full-time work as a Program Planner 1.
