Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsiblities
The Remote Sensing Laboratory-Andrews (RSL-A), located on Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, is searching for an enthusiastic and energetic Principal Technologist to join its dynamic emergency response organization that supports various emergency response assets (https://www.energy.gov/nnsa/nuclear-incident-response). In this role, you will mainly be supporting, the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Aerial Measuring System (AMS) program as an Equipment Specialist, with occasional support to the National Search Program (NSP), in emergency response field operations for real-world and exercise events. A Principal Technologist maintains and operates equipment, maintains training qualifications, and executes tasks assigned in support of the emergency response assets and other office needs.
Key Responsibilities
+ Maintenance and upgrades of AMS equipment consisting of radiation detectors, control units, computer hardware and software, networking and data telemetry. This equipment is part of the national emergency response asset and must stay at a high level of readiness.
+ Coordinate with AMS equipment leads to maintain accountability and awareness of shared AMS equipment especially during maintenance or aircraft transit.
+ Strong use of documentation/logbooks to maintain records for responsible equipment; and develops new/improved tracking and documentation methods as appropriate.
+ Follow company guidelines, manuals, procedures, etc.
+ Follow established technical procedures and instructions.
+ Attain and maintain qualifications as a radiological emergency responder.
+ Serve rotating, on-call duty for approximately a third of the year, typically in one-week increments.
+ Maintain training and ensure that job-specific qualifications remain current; as well as attend onsite and off-site training as necessary to maintain competency
+ Maintain, troubleshoot, test and use radiological detection equipment, communications equipment, etc. This also includes maintaining instrument records and performing equipment calibrations.
+ Assist in the development of company and emergency response guidelines, manuals, procedures, etc.
+ Assist in the development and delivery of trainings.
+ Organize, evaluate, and interpret data by comparison against standards and guidelines.
+ Devise new approaches to maintenance, operations, and testing, etc.
+ Frequent coordination of discipline information with other departments within the company and with outside vendors. Work with outside contacts as required to obtain relevant information.
+ Must be able to develop company and emergency response guidelines, manuals, procedures, etc.
+ Must be able to develop and implement corrective actions and lessons learned.
+ Prepare technical reports and recommendations.
+ Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria.
+ Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the application of operations techniques.
+ Coordinate project assignments among engineering, scientists, specialty staff groups, clients, and vendors.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

Qualifications
+ Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years’ progressive related experience.
+ Experience with one or more of the following is highly desired: Fixed and/or removable contamination; radiation detectors; Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) emergency response procedures and protocols; basic understanding of TCP/IP networks.
+ Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required.
+ Must qualify for use of industrial respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
+ Must be able to participate in national response asset deployment activities, including flying onboard government aircraft for missions and deployments.
+ Must be able to meet company requirements for worldwide travel including a physical and immunizations.
+ Anticipated amount of domestic and international travel is 25-40%.
+ The primary work location will be at the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
+ Work schedules offered include 5'8s (Mon-Fri), 9/80 (off every other Friday), and 4/10s (Mon-Thurs, off every Friday). Schedule is subject to change.
+ Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
+ Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. **Department of Energy Q Clearance** (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707\_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Annual salary range for this position is: $81,681.60 - $122,532.80.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
