    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Primarily responsible for the maintenance, breeding, genotyping and organization of several genetically engineered mouse colonies. Additional responsibilities include completing established laboratory functions including cell culture, molecular, biochemical and cell biological experiments. Will assist with overall functioning of the laboratory including ordering supplies, making stock solutions, equipment maintenance, and training of lab personnel. Will design and perform experiments, collect and analyze data, help to manage projects and publish papers. Ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of personnel is essential. Will be supported by NIH/NIAMS R01AR082209 (GR533251)

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + **Mouse colonies.** Maintenance and breeding of multiple lines of transgenic mice. Responsibilities include generation of ear punches and tail snips, maintaining breeding records and setting up weekly breeding schedules.

    + **Mouse genotyping and behavior assays.** Responsibilities include PCR analysis of genomic DNA from ear punches and tail snips, as well as detailed record keeping of mouse genotypes. Perform mouse behavioral assays.

    + **Molecular and biochemical experiments.** Following training, will perform standard molecular biological experiments including cDNA purification, cloning, PCR amplification, and restriction analyses. Western blot analysis and other biochemical assays.

    + **General laboratory maintenance.** Order laboratory supplies. Prepare common lab reagents and stocks. Maintain functionality of lab equipment, as well as the overall organization of the lab, and comply with all institutional laboratory safety procedures. Maintain careful laboratory notebooks.

    + **Training.** Helps to **i** nterview and train laboratory personnel and rotating graduate students on laboratory and departmental-shared equipment and laboratory procedures. Provide support and technical assistance on experimental problems that may arise during the course of their experiments.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + High School diploma or GED and 1-year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required

    + Associate's or BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Health Science, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Neuroscience or other science related field of study

    + 1 year of laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Technical skills in either molecular biology or biochemistry approaches and a willingness to work with mice required.
