    Responsibilities

    The CMA or LPN – Cardiology Clinics provides direct patient care and clinical support to cardiology providers in a fast-paced, outpatient specialty setting. This role is essential in preparing patients for visits, assisting with procedures, coordinating follow-up care, and ensuring accurate documentation. The CMA/LPN works closely with providers, RNs, and the broader care team to support patients with complex cardiovascular needs across various clinic locations in the Des Moines area.

     

    + Greet, room, and prepare patients for cardiac consultations and follow-up visits.

    + Collect and record vital signs, health history, medication reconciliation, and other relevant clinical information.

    + Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the provider and within scope of practice.

    + Assist providers with in-office procedures such as EKGs, pacemaker checks, stress tests, and Holter monitor placements.

    + Provide patient education regarding cardiac medications, lifestyle modifications, and home monitoring.

    + Facilitate communication between patients and providers through message handling, triage, and care coordination.

    + Schedule appointments, labs, diagnostic testing (e.g., echocardiograms, nuclear imaging), and specialty referrals.

    + Maintain and stock exam rooms, ensure cleanliness, and manage medical supplies and equipment.

    + Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).

    + Follow all infection control and patient safety protocols.

    Qualifications

    + Active Iowa certification as a CMA (through AAMA or NCCT) or current Iowa LPN license (unencumbered)

    + BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

    + Proficiency with basic clinical procedures and patient care workflows

    + Excellent communication and organizational skills
