    Ag Marketing Program Specialist - Idaho Preferred

    The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for an Program Specialist for Idaho Preferred in the Market Development division.

     

    This position plays a key role in the implementation and coordination of outreach, communications, and service delivery activities that support Idaho’s specialty crop producers and Idaho agriculture. The Program Specialist assists with member support services, promotional campaigns, digital and print communications, educational resource development, website and social media implementation, and program evaluation. This role ensures consistent delivery of outreach efforts and resource development that strengthen Idaho’s specialty crop market access and visibility.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Program Implementation & Coordination

     

    + Assist with the implementation of Idaho Preferred initiatives that connect Idaho food producers with consumers, retailers, foodservice, and distribution partners.

    + Support the coordination of seasonal promotions, merchandising kits, signage, campaign materials, sampling efforts, and outreach logistics.

    + Provide technical assistance and consultation to producers, food businesses, and buyers to support the use of Idaho-grown, raised, and crafted products.

    + Assist in the preparation and distribution of outreach materials including brochures, posters, guides, and other print and digital content.

    + Contribute to internal program procedures and process improvements by helping evaluate program activities and service delivery trends.

     

    Digital Tools & Communication Support

     

    + Assist in the maintenance and coordination of Idaho Preferred’s digital tools, including the Farm and Food Finder, sourcing directories, crop availability tools, and community calendars.

    + Update producer data, certifications, and sourcing availability across internal systems and public-facing tools to ensure accuracy and compliance.

    + Help develop and publish content for websites, email campaigns, newsletters, blogs, and social media that support seasonal campaigns and statewide visibility.

    + Upload and organize multimedia content such as photos, videos, recipes, and graphics for use in promotions and educational storytelling.

    + Provide input on updates to website features and tools to enhance user experience, functionality, and accessibility.

     

    Industry Collaboration & Community Outreach

     

    + Participate in the coordination of events, trade shows, and community outreach efforts; assist with booth setup, signage, and promotional displays.

    + Collaborate with local, regional, and national partners to promote Idaho agriculture and expand market access for participating producers.

    + Support program outreach by speaking with community groups, industry partners, and stakeholders about program benefits and participation opportunities.

    + Respond to inquiries and requests from producers, partners, and the public; escalate issues to program leadership as appropriate.

     

    Producer Education & Technical Assistance

     

    + Assist in the development and delivery of educational materials, training resources, and onboarding tools that prepare producers for wholesale, retail, and institutional markets.

    + Provide general support to producers regarding procurement standards, market expectations, and distributor relationships.

    + Coordinate and assist with in-person and virtual training sessions, producer panels, and workshops based on identified needs and seasonal priorities.

    + Gather feedback and help refine educational content in alignment with industry regulations and market trends.

     

    Program Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance

     

    + Assist with the collection of data and information to support program monitoring, grant reporting, and performance evaluations.

    + Support the documentation of program activities, campaign outcomes, and success stories for use in reports and briefings.

    + Conduct regular reviews and audits of producer listings, promotional content, and digital tools to ensure consistency and compliance with program standards.

    + Participate in internal reviews and assist with maintaining up-to-date program documentation, including CRM records, activity logs, and performance tracking.

    + Ensure all content and communications follow ISDA policies, accessibility standards, copyright guidelines, and advertising regulations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Familiarity with marketing and communications tools, including social media platforms, digital newsletters, and basic digital advertising (e.g., Meta Ads, Google Ads, or email marketing platforms).

    + Strong written communication skills and the ability to assist in the creation of brand-aligned content for websites, social media, and outreach campaigns.

    + Some knowledge of management practices; program or project planning and implementation.

     

    Typically gained by completion of one three credit or equivalent upper division college-level course or approximately 60 hours or equivalent of management training that included all the essential elements of management (Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling); OR completion of the State/BSU sponsored Center for Management Development Supervision I-IV or equivalent; OR six months of experience performing all management elements.

     

    + Experience developing and evaluating policies and procedures.

     

    This is typically gained through six months experience writing or assisting in the review/auditing and developing of policies, procedures, field memorandums, directives or post orders.
