    This position is open until filled.     About the Position

    This is a regular, full-time position with the City's Storm division. Job duties are focused on the maintenance of the City's Storm water conveyance systems. As an entry level position, the individual will work under the direction of crew leads as well as the senior staff members on the team. Storm division employees work in conjunction with the Street division employees maintaining right of way assets including, but not limited to, maintenance of road surfaces, traffic control devices and markings, vegetation control, snow and ice control, and maintenance of various other Street/Storm assets. Applicants are expected to have the ability to use various hand tools, operate a variety of equipment, and be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

     

    New hires generally start between $6,393.00 and $7,048.50 per month. Placement within the position’s full wage scale is based on qualifications and professional experience. The full wage scale for this position is between $6,393.00 and $7,771.50 per month.

    About the Department

    Edmonds Storm division consists of one manager, one crew lead, and seven crew members that maintain the City's storm division surface water quality assets. The Storm division works in conjunction with the Street division sharing the same manager, equipment, and shop space. These divisions work under the Public Works Department.

Edmonds provides a full range of services, including contracted fire services, police services a municipal court, a community pool, a regional performing arts facility, public works and utilities, a regional wastewater treatment facility, along with community events and services through our Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department. Six department directors report directly to the Mayor and oversee approximately 279 full–time-equivalent employees.

     

    Examples of Duties

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

     

    + Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City streets, alleys, right-of-ways and sidewalks.

    + Removes materials; prepares and performs patching of potholes; seals cracks and repairs asphalt surfaces.

    + Cleans, maintains and repairs storm drains, culverts, catch basins and manholes; installs storm drains and drainage systems; excavates and installs storm drains manually or with backhoes and trenchers.

    + Removes, prepares, forms and pours concrete sidewalks or walkways.

    + Controls and maintains vegetation in right-of-ways and intersections and removes debris during and after weather related storms.

    + Operates snow plowing equipment to remove snow; applies chemicals and/or sand to control ice.

    + Maintains traffic control markings including: roadway striping, crosswalks, installation of signs and other markings according to state laws and City needs; lays out new centerlines and crosswalks.

    + Operates a variety of equipment including: loaders, spray equipment, paint striper, dump truck, vactor truck, jack hammer and other specialized equipment and hand and power tools.

    + Assists in the maintenance and repair of traffic control devices and right-of-way signs and symbols.

    + Maintains accurate routine records of work performed including: equipment usage, preventive maintenance and needed repairs; responds to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    + High School Diploma/GED Certificate AND

    + Six months of experience is required in construction or related field of work that includes operation of associated equipment and tools, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment OR

    + An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that will allow the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

    + Experience with concrete, asphalt, and the operation of storm systems is preferred.

    Required Licenses or Certifications:

    + A valid Driver's License at time of hire and a driving record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance requirements. Out of state candidates must obtain their WA State Driver's License within 30 days after moving to WA https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/moving.html

    + “Class A” CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within one year from date of hire.

    + Flagging Certification within 3 years from date of hire.

    + CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen Cards within 2 years of date of hire.

    + Other specialty certifications/licenses as required by state and federal law and/or OSHA and WAC regulations may be required within a specified period of time after hire.

    + A criminal background check is required following a verbal offer of employment. Criminal history is not an automatic employment disqualifier. Results are reviewed on a case-by case basis.

    + This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with USDOT requirements. A pre-employment drug screening will be required upon conditional job offer.
