    Job Description:

    The Assistant Director has the primary responsibility of supporting the day-to-day operations of Residence Life for a residential program with 36 residence halls housing approximately 7000 students, which includes the training, supervision, development and evaluation of the residence hall staff, student engagement, development and problem solving, crisis management, collaboration between Residence Life and other departments on campus to educate staff and hold students accountable on behavior that have an impact on community. This position supports the mission of the Department of Housing and Residence Life, the Division and the University while creating a welcoming, safe and supportive residential experience. This position serves on the Department of Housing and Residence Life leadership team to further advance current and newly emerging departmental priorities. This position will serve on a duty rotation necessary 365 days per year 24 hours a day to address campus crises and emergencies on campus in residential housing.

     

    Oversee the day-to-day operation of the assigned supervision area.

     

    • Directly supervise, develop and evaluate full-time Resident Directors (3-5)

    • Indirectly supervise Graduate staff and approximately 40-80 student staff members.

    • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and training of full-time Resident Directors, part-time Graduate Assistants/Graduate Resident Director and student staff members.

    • Oversee the day-to-day function of assigned staff and residence halls to support mission of the Department of Residence Life and Housing.

    • Provide one-on-one supervision to Resident Directors.

    • Facilitate weekly staff team meetings.

    • Educate professional staff on the student staff evaluation and disciplinary process.

    • Oversee hall and programming budgets for fiduciary responsibilities and compliance standards.

    • Oversee the management of day-to-day operations and activities of assigned supervision area.

    • Oversee the implementation of community development, integrated learning, student engagement and wellbeing initiatives for assigned supervision area.

    • Provide direction to ensure staff build communities in support of the Division of Student Affairs values.

    • Serve in departmental leadership meetings, providing strategic planning and decision making for the department in conjunction with other departmental leaders.

    • Provide mentorship and guidance for Resident Directors and Graduate Assistants/Resident Directors to promote growth, development and advancement.

    • Serve on the Residence Life On-Call Rotation to provide support and guidance to staff during crises and emergencies.

     

    Collaborate with campus partners to provide communication, support, and oversight to assigned supervision area.

     

    • Develop relationships with campus partners that have a direct impact on the residential experiences (ie. Athletics, International Student and Faculty Services, ROTC etc.).

    • Provide oversight and support for residential student conduct cases, including serving as a hearing officer for high level cases.

    • Serve as a liaison with campus partners such as Residential Custodial Services, Maintenance, Counseling and Psychological Services, Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility and OUPD to improve and strengthen relationships and shape policies and student expectations/experiences as outlined in duty and incident responses, the Housing Handbook, Student Code of Conduct and compliance with law.

     

    Provide leadership and oversight to at least one departmental functional area or team as assigned.

     

    • Chair or Co-Chair for Departmental committees or Teams.

    • Provide vision and direction for assigned functional area and identify strategies to integrate into the day to day expectations.

    • Responsible for the overall coordination of events and activities in support of engagement, community development, integrated learning, or wellbeing initiatives.

    • Facilitate meetings and discussions as appropriate with assigned staff in support of departmental functional area priorities.

     

    Provide support to university, division and departmental efforts.

     

    • Support university, divisional and departmental missions, visions, goals and strategic plans.

    • Comply with all university, divisional and departmental policies, practices and expectations.

    • Attend, prepare and participate in trainings, staff meetings, committees and other meetings as assigned.

    • Represent Housing and Residence Life through committee involvement and participation, report out at staff meetings and provide updates to Director of Residence Life.

    • Actively participate in departmental student and professional staff recruitment and selection activities.

    • Participate in the coordination of move-in and move-out

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related

    field required

    • 3 years of related experience

    • 3 years of management experience

    • Experience in Housing and Residence Life highly preferred

     

    Must hold valid driver’s license

    • Commitment to supporting development of strong, welcoming residential communities.

    • Experience integrating intentional learning into work with students, including development of educational and engagement strategies.

    • Mentor and coach staff with intentionality through on-going developmental supervision.

    • Effectively manage administrative responsibilities and interpersonal communication with students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrate a commitment to issues and matters relating to the field of Student Affairs
