Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for the prevention, recognition, and treatment of on-the-job illness and injuries. This position requires skills and knowledge in health and safety education, counselling, environmental health, safety, rehabilitation, and human relations.

Responsibilities:

+ Serve as a primary resource on health matters, reviewing such items as physicians' reports on employee health, workers' compensation insurance claims, medical restrictions on employee work, and the policies and procedures for employee

+ wellness programs

+ Provide first aid and assist employees who are injured or become ill at work

+ Document, investigate, and manage work-related injuries and illnesses, including Workers’ Compensation claims

+ Manage return to work approval process

+ Provide support to ensure compliance with select Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) standards

+ Develop and implement health promotion programs such as ergonomics, health fairs, awareness campaigns, on-site flu shots, blood drives, exercise, healthy eating programs, etc.

+ Perform pre-employment health screening and drug screening processes

+ Develop professional relationships with local occupational clinics and collaborate with other Health Care Providers to support the worker through the recovery process

+ Participate in applicable safety meetings and investigations

+ Maintain medical supplies inventory and inspection

+ Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:

+ Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain

+ Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container

+ Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing required or equivalent, relevant experience

+ Current registered nursing license in the state of Michigan

Experience:

+ 3 to 6 + years of occupational health or critical care nursing experience required

+ Occupational health and safety experience and OSHA training in a manufacturing environment is desired

+ Prior experience with Michigan Worker's Compensation case management and claims management desired

+ Experience as a trainer for health and safety topics such as First Aid/CPR, Blood borne Pathogens is preferred

Skills:

+ Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Worker’s Compensation, and legislation regarding confidentiality

+ Excellent written communication skills and will be expected to document decisions, agreements, and orders created

+ Proficient in MS Office Suite or related software

+ Communicate effectively with employees, physicians/medical professionals, and other outside parties

+ Analyse and make sound judgments to accurately document and maintain appropriate confidentiality of medical records

+ Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production team and off-hour emergencies
