    Job Description

    The part-time civil case manager is responsible for performing administrative and case management functions in circuit and county civil divisions in support of the timely resolution of civil cases, while adhering to the time standards established in the rules of general practice and judicial administration. This position is responsible for collecting and reporting on case/program data and maintaining databases as needed. The Civil Case Manager works under the general supervision of a Program Coordinator, developing work methods and sequences.

     

    This is a high-volume division of the court. Candidates must be proficient using computers and Microsoft Office products and able to generate multiple documents. Attention to detail is important.

    This position requires basic knowledge of the legal system, civil court processes and procedures and the following skills and abilities:

    • Analyze court files for completeness of appropriate legal documentation and the ability to move cases through the court process;

    • Review case data and reports for case integrity and accuracy; identify discrepancies and report to clerk;

    • Review pending case data and identify cases in need of judicial intervention; determines whether case requires a case management conference or appropriate hearing;

    • Maintain daily, monthly, and yearly statistics regarding the Civil Case Management Plan; or creates and maintains record systems for efficient case management;

    • Work independently, as well as with a team;

    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;

    • Establish work priorities;

    • Appropriately work with litigants and attorneys who are under the stress inherent in civil legal conflicts;

    • Understand the limitations of services of case management and what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law; and

    • Maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court.

     

    Education and Training Guidelines

     

    Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology or a closely related social science field; and three years of professional, administrative and/or analytical related experience.

     

    Paralegal or work-related experience to case management is preferred and may replace the education requirement.

    Special Comments

    Salary is $24,326.55 annually including CAD (non-negotiable).

     

    State employees are paid on the last workday of each month) The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary. Benefits include membership in the Florida Retirement System and a generous contribution by the State to health insurance premiums. The schedule is 4 hours per day, five days per week, but may be flexible upon consideration.
