Are you ready to make a meaningful impact at a prestigious institution? The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS) is seeking a dynamic Facilities Planning and Management Director to lead and shape our facility strategies. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of facilities, ensuring our spaces align with our focus on sustainability and innovation.
You will lead a talented team focused on Space Management and Planning, Capital Planning, Facility Operations, Life Safety and Emergency Planning and Management, as well as Field Support and Repository services. This role offers the unique opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of buildings on Stanford's historic campus and the beautiful Hopkins Marine Station in Monterey, California.
As the director, you will spearhead the approximately $800M Sustainability Commons initiative, expanding campus facilities by over 330,000 gross square feet (gsf) over a 10-year period, impacting the entire university. You will oversee six current SDSS facilities (250,000 gsf) and co-manage the Y2E2 building (171,000 gsf) in partnership with the School of Engineering to ensure optimal utilization and operational efficiency. Additionally, you will conduct assessments and strategic planning for multiple facilities, including Hopkins Marine Station, contributing to a total managed space of over 750,000 gsf as new buildings are added.

Your Responsibilities will include:
+ **Strategic Leadership:** Lead the strategic planning process, including multi-year project prioritization, capital planning, funding allocation, and condition assessment programs. Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans, consult on space inventory and allocation, and research and recommend relevant policies and strategies to address long-term facility projects, growth and program needs. Collaborate closely with faculty and staff leadership within SDSS and across the University to align facilities strategy with academic and research priorities.
+ **Team Management:** Define team activities, assess staffing requirements, allocate resources, and evaluate team performance. Lead a group of professionals across facilities management, health and safety, operations, maintenance, and incident/emergency management to ensure efficient operation.
+ **Policy Development:** Create and implement staffing, security, and emergency management plans, as well as related policies and procedures for all buildings, newly acquired facilities, and partnerships that arise during the capital construction process.
+ **Operational Oversight:** Plan and direct local facilities operations, ensuring activities align with established goals and holding facilities managers accountable for performance.
+ **Senior Leadership Role:** Serve as a senior leader within the School, contributing to the Senior Management Team and reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean to align facilities management with the school’s overall strategic objectives.

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or an equivalent combination of technical education, training, and experience. Ten years of related, progressively responsible experience requiring extensive leadership and strategic expertise in facilities operations, maintenance, and planning, life safety, emergency planning and management, and performing duties similar to those listed above.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Advanced knowledge of best practices in facilities management discipline.
+ Demonstrated experience managing large facility organizations, or experience in managing a large professional service organization.
+ Demonstrated experience as a senior manager with responsibility for developing and mentoring managers and senior professionals.
+ Advanced knowledge and application of relevant codes, regulations, and processes.

+ Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
+ Adapt readily to change and respond constructively to evolving priorities.
+ Proven experience in mitigating, preparing for, responding to, maintaining, and recovering facilities operations during and after natural disasters or other human-caused crises.
+ Anticipate challenges and drive forward-thinking, solutions-oriented approaches.
+ Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
+ Experience in higher education

The expected pay range for this position is $240,678 to $300,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
