    What We Want

     

    Scholarships & Financial Aid is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Financial Aid Advisor III to serve in a supervisory capacity, supporting the delivery of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, scholarships, and military education benefits. This role involves providing guidance and leadership to full-time staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and offering specialized counseling to students and families. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in financial aid or student services, with a strong understanding of policy interpretation, process improvement, and staff development in a higher education setting.

    Salary: $ 56,925 Annually

    •Other Requirements: Occasional Travel. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and outside regular business hours during peak periods.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    + Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    + Three years in financial aid, scholarships, student employment, student veterans services or related experience

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service

    + Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

    + Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization

    + Good interpersonal communication skills

    + Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend, give and follow both written and verbal instructions

    + Ability to organize and make decisions

    + Ability to work well under pressure

    + Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and judgment in dealing with all customers

    + Attention to detail

    Responsibilities

    Advising/Processing

    + Uses discretion and independent judgment to provide advanced counseling and guidance to students and their families on financial aid/scholarship processes and programs

    + Reviews student files and adjusts as needed

    + Understands and trains on the financial aid/scholarship process and assists with cross-training other financial aid staff

    + Awards, revises, and/or approves the disbursement of financial aid through specific controls of program policy and guidelines

    + Communicates with students and their families via multiple methods (i.e. email, in-person, phone, etc.)

    + May make recommendations on internal procedures for customer service

    + Reviews application data against additional data received (i.e. tax returns) and resolves discrepancies or adjusts data in Banner/Compass as appropriate

    + Collaborates frequently with on campus representatives regarding students’ financial aid concerns. Assists with resolving and responding to complex student cases regarding financial aid and scholarships

    Financial Aid Knowledge & Team Support

    + Interprets and maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid

    + Reviews complex rules, regulations, procedures, and policies relating to financial aid.

    + Interacts with students and assists with transition from prospective to currently enrolled students

    + Ensures that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures while using critical thinking skills

    + Recommends revisions to established policies and procedures

    + Provides training, mentorship, and assistance to other financial aid staff on specialized processes

    + Evaluates and analyzes a wide variety of financial aid related records

    + In collaboration with supervisor and Marketing & Communications representative, helps develop and revise financial aid consumer information material, publications, and brochures

    Specialized Program

    + Coordinates and/or serves as a resource for one or more specialized programs or functions for financial aid

    + May coordinate the planning and execution of events related to the program

    + Develops, maintains, and conducts training to staff regarding specialized program

    + Recommends revisions to established internal policies and procedures and communicates changes to constituents

    + Works with IT staff to test, evaluate, and adjust reports and procedures as needed

    + May supervise full-time staff members or student workers

    + May work with state, regional, or national committees concerning regulations and impacts to financial aid offices and students

    + May work with Data Analyst to collect, interpret, and report data regarding specialized program

    Specialized Financial Aid Support & Student Services

    + Manages Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) reconsideration appeals and coordinates emergency aid distribution to assist students facing financial hardships

    + Serves as the primary contact for the Student Assistance & Support Services (SASS) program, ensuring effective communication and resource referral

    + Responds promptly to student inquiries and issues through Aggie One Stop (AOS), providing thorough support and guidance

    + Processes professional judgment requests, conducts SAP appointments, and handles cost of attendance adjustments and housing status changes while ensuring compliance with institutional and federal policies

    General

    + Participates in and assists in the planning and execution of events for departmental initiatives (e.g. financial aid awareness programs, Aggieland Saturday, New Student Conferences)

    + Stays abreast of changes in tax and financial aid information to ensure compliance

    + Attends local, state, and national workshops, and conferences

    + Conducts seminars and gives presentations

    + May give presentations on specialized programs. Develops training material

    + May participate in committees for industry organizations or within the University
