    Description

AmazonUI (AUI) is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE-III) to modernize Amazon's front-end developer experience. AUI provides a library of front-end components, build tools, a templating engine, and runtime libraries used by thousands of engineers.

AUI engineers have a range of skills but, as a team, we set the bar for engineering accessible features, deploying client-side code, generating HTML, and ultra-low JavaScript golf scores. Our customer base gives us incredible leverage and the spotlight is often on us. We think in terms of frameworks not features. We make tools and languages.

As a team, we have been using either Kotlin or TypeScript for the last year, though we maintain existing code bases that use Java, Perl, and JavaScript. We use git for our VCS, and a proprietary system for managing our continuous deployments. We value testability, maintainability, code quality, and cogent design. Our products include the front end framework for Amazon, a JavaScript and CSS build system used by thousands, and a compiler for deploying markup templates across multiple languages.

    Key job responsibilities

    Technical Leadership & Innovation

Lead the development of large-scale UI components for Amazon's global shopping experience

Drive adoption of front-end technologies and industry standards

Architect scalable solutions that work across Amazon's worldwide platforms

    Performance & Quality Excellence

Implement and monitor performance metrics for front-end systems

Develop optimization strategies for high-traffic shopping interfaces

Establish quality assurance processes and testing frameworks for UI components

    Component Development & System Design

Create reusable, enterprise-level UI components for store-wide implementation

Design and maintain modular front-end architecture systems

Ensure accessibility and responsive design across all developed components

    Impact Measurement & Analytics

Define and track success metrics for front-end initiatives

Analyze and report on component performance across global markets

Drive data-informed decisions for UI improvements and optimizations

    Cross-functional Collaboration

Partner with design, product, and engineering teams to deliver cohesive solutions

Contribute to technical documentation and best practices

Mentor team members and promote knowledge sharing across organizations

    A day in the life

On the AmazonUI Shopper Experience team, you will:

    2. Write high quality, well tested code to further our novel technology solutions that remove undifferentiated work for Amazon front end developers.

    3. Maintain a high bar on support for our broadly used Component library and supporting front-end developers building features for the Amazon shopping experience.

    Basic Qualifications

    - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

    - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

    - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

    Preferred Qualifications

    - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
