    Robert Half is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to support a Financial Services organization based in Seattle, WA. This role involves building out a new cloud-native integration platform as part of a larger greenfield development effort supporting vendor, policy, and claim systems. The position is Remote, in a 6-month contract (with potential to convert to full-time).

    Job Details:

    + Schedule: Flexible – candidates can work PST or EST; asynchronous communication is comfortable and encouraged

    + Duration: 6-month contract (potential to convert)

    + Location: Remote (U.S. only)

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Design, develop, and deploy cloud-native orchestration services on AWS, supporting API-to-API integrations and third-party platforms

    + Define and evolve REST API contracts, JSON schemas, and event-driven patterns with scalability and observability in mind

    + Build and maintain light CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments with a focus on autonomy and self-sufficiency

    + Participate in architecture and business discussions translating complex business processes into software requirements

    + Create structured logging and monitoring frameworks using tools like AWS CloudWatch

    + Lead the transition from prototype to production, including error handling, schema evolution, and event durability

    + Collaborate closely with product, business analysts, and vendor systems to connect disparate systems via AWS services

    Requirements

    + 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including leadership of complex projects or services, 3+ years working with cloud serverless and orchestration services (AWS preferred - Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, EventBridge, etc; similar experience in GCP or Azure will be considered)

    + Strong experience designing and delivering cloud-native backend services (preferably AWS Lambda, Step Functions)

    + Demonstrated ability to manage complex API integrations, including event enrichment, canonical structures, and error handling

    + Deep knowledge of AWS SDKs (Python, TypeScript, JavaScript), and experience working across multiple systems and environments

    + Ability to independently set up CI/CD pipelines and push code through basic automation workflows (DevOps light)

    + Strong communication and problem-solving skills—must be comfortable working with ambiguous or evolving business logic

    + Experience working in a pod model on greenfield software initiatives and understanding of API-first architecture
