Summary Statement
The Boise Police Department is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Investigative Support Specialist. This vital civilian position provides administrative and technical support to detectives working in violent crimes, narcotics, property, and financial crimes. You'll serve as a key liaison between the department, crime victims, the public, and partner agencies—helping ensure clear communication and accurate case tracking.
Essential Functions
Provides support to detectives assigned to cases by conducting preliminary interviews with victims and witnesses, determining the information needed, conducting research and creating information packets and files. Tracks progress of cases and archives records, ensuring detectives have the most up-to-date information. Proactive in gathering relevant information to assist in ongoing investigations, including reviewing and analyzing complex and large amounts of data to identify pertinent evidence. Performs basic crime analysis duties, including constructing timelines, link charts and electronic forensic interpretation and intel gathering. Uses social media platforms to gather suspect and victim information. Investigates subjects' initial intel using multiple databases, both internal and external.
Acts as a liaison with crime victims, the general public and other agencies involved in cases. Responds in the field to assist with ongoing investigations and meet with victims or witnesses. Analyzes and collects relevant information and evidence, which may involve some basic CSS duties such as logging and packaging evidence. Provides information to citizens regarding the status and the processes involved in cases. Interprets state, city and department policies, codes and regulations. Prepares packets and/or provides referrals and information regarding resources to assist victims of crimes.
Provides statistics for management review. Updates and maintains information in a variety of agency-specific databases. Compiles statistics and reports of activities and cases. Prepares graphs, charts and tables for presentations.
Processes financial activities for the section. Receives money and prepares documentation for department financial staff. Audits money received or disbursed, ensuring the accuracy of current balances. Orders necessary supplies and equipment. Prepares invoices for payment by department financial staff. Tracks grant money and creates bills for reimbursement.
Coordinates with outside agencies to provide and collect information needed to process cases. Ensures all agencies involved have appropriate paperwork for relevant cases. Submits all paperwork for cash and vehicle seizures and forfeitures to the Ada County Prosecutor's Office and maintains files throughout the civil forfeiture process.
Provides general administrative support to the unit. Answers phones, processes interoffice mail, orders office supplies, logs and files various information. Creates and proofreads correspondence and reports. Attends meetings, takes and distributes meeting notes.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience providing administrative support in law enforcement or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Knowledge of: law enforcement practices and procedures; case management processes; interaction between law enforcement, attorneys and the courts; and computer usage including related software.
Ability to: demonstrate good attention to detail; work independently and use initiative and sound judgment; maintain a high degree of confidentiality; interact with members of the public and other agencies in a professional and courteous manner; conduct fact-finding interviews and research using a variety of sources, determining the relevance of the information; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance, including creating detailed and effective reports and documents; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
College coursework in criminal justice or a related field.
Four years of experience working with victims of crime.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver's license.
National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within six months of hire.
