We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Field Technician to join our team in the Denver, CO area. Under general supervision, you will operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems while providing long-term post-closure care at closed landfill sites. Additionally, you may be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining other environmental pollution control systems such as Vapor Extraction Systems (VES) and Ground Water Pump and Treat (GWP&T) systems. This role requires you to perform work in a professional, productive, and safe manner, reporting to a senior -level supervisor.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct sampling at various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, and pumps.
+ Record and analyze data, adjusting gas flow rates based on data review and supervisor consultation.
+ Operate and maintain various analytical equipment, including calibration.
+ Maintain daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions.
+ Consult with supervisors and, occasionally, clients regarding field conditions and test results.
+ Implement necessary routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance to keep systems compliant.
+ Perform, supervise, or assist in required maintenance and repairs.
+ Interact with vendors and sub-contractors for system operations, monitoring, and maintenance.
+ Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings and ensure standards are followed.
+ Perform surface emission monitoring using air-monitoring instruments.
+ Utilize tools, ladders, saws, and generators for pipe repairs and system expansions.
+ Operate backhoe and forklifts for non-routine repairs on gas systems and piping.
+ Enter sumps or vaults to obtain well measurements or tune gas wells.
+ Repair leachate or condensate pumps and manage their placement into vaults or sumps.
+ Complete site checklists and inform supervisors of any changes or concerns.
+ Participate in monthly Health and Safety meetings and training.
+ Prepare daily logs for work performed on sites.
+ Actively participate in the SAFE process, making observations and assisting in health and safety plan development.
Essential Skills
+ 2+ years of experience in civil construction or earthwork.
+ Experience in Quality Control or Inspection work preferred.
+ Proficiency in Excel and Word.
+ Willingness to work in the field 100% of the time and endure long hours during the summer.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Prior Quality Control/Inspection experience on construction projects.
+ Ability to travel, especially within Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.
+ Experience in geosynthetics installation, particularly High Density Polyethylene Geomembrane.
+ Surveying and soils testing experience is a plus.
Work Environment
The position is at solid waste landfill sites in the field 100% of the time, with remote work possible when not on-site. You will work closely with project engineers and construction contractors. The work schedule typically involves 10-11 hour days, Monday through Friday, with weekend work preferred. Projects last 2-6 months on average and are located across the Midwest, providing a laid-back group environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
