    Become a Substation Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will be part of a group of engineers overseeing the North Coast/Metro West region. You will lead the engineering and design of substation electrical facilities, developing engineering scope for substation projects based on project summary/description provided from sponsors. The Engineer 2 will function as the responsible engineer on assigned projects, and address technical challenges related to substation systems. This position involves collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders during pre-engineering meetings, managing internal design efforts, providing mentorship to team members, and overseeing engineering contractors to ensure consistency and high-quality of design, schedule adherence, and cost efficiency.     Responsibilities

    + Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ trouble shooting, and overall improvements

    + Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place

    + Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity

    + Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria

    + Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology

    + Ensures the performance of day to day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including

    + Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards

    + Helps ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle

    + Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment

    + Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system funcionality and quality of service to customers

    + Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.

    + A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.

    + Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

    + Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services

    + Experience with AutoCad

    + Two or more years with substation engineering and design

    + Professional Engineer License (P.E.) in State of California

    Additional Information

    + This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

    + Position will require up to 25% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

    + This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

    + Relocation does not apply to this position.
