OUR MISSION:
Our mission is to ensure the physical and operational integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
About this position:
Engineer Intern 1 thru 5 - Operations Maintenance Support Engineer (MSE) will assist the Senior Project Engineer with Operations with managing all aspects of inspection, construction, maintenance and repair activities at all SLFPA-E facilities within the agency including the 3 Permanent Canal Closure Pump Stations (PCCP), and 8 Marine Complex Structures, in addition to the 2 bridges and various other support infrastructure and equipment under the Operations Department’s domain. The MSE will coordinate the field maintenance and operations and provide mechanical and electrical recommendations for repair at SLFPA-E facilities wherever and whenever engineering-level support is required. The incumbent will coordinate work schedules and priorities with facility supervisors to ensure that ongoing operation, maintenance and any required repairs or construction are timely and safely accomplished in accordance with professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Inspects, develops and reviews the maintenance and operations records and coordinates preparation with field crews
+ Directs field maintenance or repair of SLFPA-E facilities appropriate to the trades or disciplines under his broad supervision and inspects construction contract work and verifies contract completion
+ Ensures that all mechanical, electrical and equipment maintenance and operations are in accordance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of Operations, Maintenance, Repair, Replacement, and Rehabilitation (OMRRR) manuals
+ Utilizes the Asset Management Program and Risk Analysis Reduction measures to aid in routine and preventive maintenance procedures and schedules and prepares cost analyses regarding such as pertaining to his areas of specialization
+ Advises the Engineer 6 (Senior PEO) of actions deemed necessary to maintain facilities equipment and operate equipment in optimum condition
+ Coordinates the scope of work required for maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical issues
+ Develops technical scope of work and reviews consultant contracts, specifications, proposals and advises Engineer 6 or Dir. of Operations regarding such as appropriate
+ Attend field progress meetings and report any conflicts or delays to the Engineer 6 or Dir. of Operations as appropriate
+ In the field coordination, oversight, completion and acceptance of projects on time and within budget
+ Coordinates project status with Engineer 6 to document project progress for the project management software
+ Works with the Senior PEO, to provide budget data, strategic planning, policy analysis, and prepare engineering reports for the Director of Operations.
+ Maintains consultant and construction contract records, prepares task orders, change orders, recommends invoice payments and prepares close out documents
+ Monitors the Operations Department budget regarding awarded projects and change orders, advise Engineer 6 of required projects and budget amounts to be placed on future budget preparation
+ Prepares requisition forms for purchasing and warehousing of adequate inventories of supplies, materials and equipment required for routine preventive maintenance and repair
+ Advises the Engineer 6 or Dir. of Operations as appropriate of all problems or potential problem areas pertaining to the incumbent's areas of expertise and prepares reports and power point presentations as needed or assigned.
+ In conjunction with the Engineer 6 and/or Dir. of Operations as appropriate, implements recommendations of the FPA Safety Risk Manager and FPA Training Specialist as designed and schedule training and safety programs for subordinates.
+ Serves on committees, as an advisor to committees and meets with contractors and consultants as directed by the Director of Operations or Engineer 6. The incumbent provides regular reports of all such activities to the Director of Operations and others as that person deems appropriate.
+ The incumbent performs any and all other related duties as needed or assigned.
The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority- East (SLFPA-E) and its constituent levee Districts is a disaster emergency-oriented agency. Part of SLFPA-E's mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, and to protect the residents of the Greater New Orleans area from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding.
In emergencies like Mississippi River flooding, Hurricane/Tropical Storm or storm surge events, as determined by the Appointing Authority, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position (40-hour work week); it offers a flexible work schedule.
