    The **Windows Agents Team** at Microsoft is shaping agent‑centric experiences that span Settings, Copilot+ PCs, and entirely new Windows 11 surfaces. This team is re‑imagine the way billions of people interact with Windows through intelligent, local‑model powered agents.  We are hiring a **Software Engineer II** to be a part of our fast‑moving, high‑ownership group that ships reliable code and delights customers at scale.

     

    As a **Software Engineer II** , you will design and implement features for conversational and background agents across the Windows stack using C++, C#, Python, and the latest Windows SDKs. You will get the opportunity to work collaboratively with teams across the business including with engineers who built and shipped the first Windows Settings Agent.

    Responsibilities

    + Design and implement features for conversational and background agents across the Windows stack using C++, C#, Python, and latest Windows SDKs.

    + Collaborate with Product, Design, and Machine Learning partners to translate user‑centric scenarios into performant code paths and telemetry.

    + Write clean, maintainable, and test‑driven code; participate in code reviews and adhere to Microsoft secure‑by‑default engineering practices.

    + Debug live‑site issues as part of a rotating Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) schedule, learning from senior engineers to build operational excellence.

    + Contribute to automated build/test pipelines targeting .NET 9 and native components, ensuring smooth deployment to Windows Insider and retail rings.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Industry experience with .NET 9 APIs (e.g., modern threading) or earlier .NET Core versions AND C#.

    + Experience building Windows desktop apps with the Windows SDK 10.0.26100 or later.

    + Experience working within AI/ML agent architectures, tools orchestration, or Copilot‑like experiences.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Demonstrated foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object‑oriented design principles.

    + Solid problem‑solving and collaboration skills; comfortable communicating in English across remote and in‑office settings.

     

    Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
