What are we looking for?
The BCBA will provide Therapeutic Consultation services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) enrolled in Virginia’s Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers, consistent with DBHDS and DMAS regulations. Services include functional behavior assessments, development of individualized behavior support plans (BSPs), training of direct support staff, and ongoing monitoring and data-driven adjustments to ensure the person’s behavioral and quality-of-life goals are met in the least restrictive, most person-centered manner.
Success measures include plan implementation fidelity, decreased restrictive interventions, increased skill acquisition, family/staff satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
The hiring range for this position is negotiable, depending on location and experience.

Qualifications
Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:
+ Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) aligned with Virginia HCBS waiver requirements and positive behavioral support frameworks.
+ Deliver services in the individual’s natural settings (residential, day, or community) to ensure generalization and relevance.
+ Provide staff training and modeling to ensure implementation fidelity of BSPs.
+ Participate in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and assist with person-centered planning and documentation requirements.
+ Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of behavior interventions and revise plans as needed, using objective data.
+ Ensure compliance with DBHDS regulatory expectations for documentation, consent, and plan submission.
+ Provide quarterly reviews and updates to the IDT and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in line with HIPAA standards.
+ Serve as a liaison between the agency, families, support coordinators, and community partners regarding behavior supports.
+ Participate in incident reviews involving behavioral crises or the use of emergency restraints to offer guidance and recommendations for prevention.
+ Provide consultation on staff support strategies to reduce crisis behavior and enhance quality of life.
+ Offer clinical supervision to staff pursuing RBT certification or BCBA licensure (if applicable).

You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
+ Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related human services field.
+ Current BCBA certification in good standing.
+ At least one year of experience supporting individuals with IDD in community-based settings.
+ Experience with DBHDS licensing and Virginia waiver documentation preferred.
+ Access to reliable transportation; services are primarily community-based.
+ Ability to work independently and manage a flexible caseload.
Extra credit will be given if you have the following experience, education, and requirements:
+ Deep understanding of Virginia Medicaid Waiver regulations for Therapeutic Consultation.
+ Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), person-centered practices, and trauma-informed care.
+ Ability to collect, analyze, and present behavioral data to inform interventions.
+ Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, families, and stakeholders.
+ Ability to train and support DSPs to apply behavioral strategies in practical settings.
+ Commitment to ethical practices under the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and DBHDS guidelines.
+ Skilled in the use of electronic health records (EHR), data collection systems, and standard office software.
Physical Demands:
+ Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as needed for assisting individuals or transporting equipment.
+ Capacity to work in a variety of settings, including medical offices, clinics, and individual homes.
Work Environment:
+ May require visits to individuals’ homes, day programs, and community locations.
+ Must be able to respond quickly in behavioral situations which may include evasion or de-escalation techniques.
+ Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs, bend, kneel, reach, and sit/stand for extended periods.
+ Occasional exposure to aggressive behavior; appropriate safety training will be provided.
All SJCS employees must:
+ Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
+ Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.
+ Working alone or with a team.
