Description

Apply to become part of the dynamic Travel Specialist team and g et paid to welcome visitors to the City of Harrisonburg in Downtown Harrisonburg at the Hardesty-Higgins House Visitor Center!

The Tourism Department's Travel Specialist position is a part-time position (no benefits) and has a preferred hiring rate of $16.12 per hour. The position requires availability to work Sundays from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Additional shifts throughout other days of the week may be available, depending upon the applicant's availability and business needs.

As a Travel Specialist, you'll:

+ Provide information about the area and area attractions, including using a map to give directions, through various methods, such as via telephone, written correspondence, or in-person;

+ Ensure all visitors are acknowledged and greeted appropriately;

+ Act as a public relations person promoting facility services and events;

+ Ensure the Hardesty-Higgins House Visitor Center operates in a clean and orderly fashion, including keeping the work area and storage areas neat and orderly;

+ Operate office equipment, including cash registers, computer software, and computer systems, and perform routine computer data entry;

+ Collect money for transactions, issue receipt of payment, and maintain daily records;

+ Reconcile cash on hand with daily receipts and may prepare end-of-day receipt record and deposit;

+ Write information on area events and attractions;

+ Review brochures, publications, and promotional displays to enhance the patrons' knowledge of tourism industry and attractions;

+ Assist with ordering, stocking, and retail merchandise displays;

+ Actively participates in meetings and trainings;

+ Perform related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

+ At least 18 years of age.

+ Completion of the tenth grade. High school diploma or GED preferred.

+ Availability to work Sundays from 9:00am - 5:00pm is required. Additional shifts may be available throughout the week depending upon business need and applicant availability.

+ Experience as a cashier or with a point-of-sale system and some experience providing customer service is preferred.
