    Position Purpose

    The Human Business Partner (HBP) is responsible for recruitment, diversity, performance management, HR policies, progressive discipline, training, strategic planning, organizational development, and employee relations issues for staff, students, and academic personnel. The HBP exercises independent judgment and discretion in handling such matters. Working closely with the University's central Human Resources offices, the HBP provides advice and counseling for interpreting and implementing all University and School of Social Work HR policies and procedures.

    Position Complexities

    The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) performs work under general direction with minimal supervision and ensures that the School's activities in the area of human resources are effective and comply with University policies and procedures. The HBP is required to learn, interpret and apply many layers of law and policy, including Federal and State laws as well as UW and SSW policies and procedures; responding to the needs of faculty leadership, faculty members and staff; providing notice of opportunities for professional development of staff; facilitating change and process improvement; providing training, advice and guidance to the School’s administrators, managers, supervisors. This position will have a high impact on both the School as well as the greater UW community. It will require the highest level of professionalism, leadership, communication skills, organizational and analytical skills, and professional knowledge.

    Dimensions and Impacts

    This position is key to the smooth operation of the School and is the first line of problem solving, resolution, performance evaluation, and change management for the School in collaboration with executive leadership, unit directors, managers, and supervisors. The position is critical to reducing and preventing employee relations problems from arising. This position is expected to be an expert in the area of student, staff, academic personnel recruitment, retention, and employee relations issues and concerns within the School. This position will require a high level of independence to manage the human resource aspects of a very complex department including recruitment, promotion, and retention.

    The School of Social Work (SSW) seeks a full time Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to ensure that the School’s human resources activities are effective and comply with University policies and procedures. In partnership with the SSW Human Resources team, this position will support staff human resource work.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Human Resources Administration

    + Manage employee hiring processes, extensions, annual evaluation process/tracking, promotion and reclassification processes, separations, and pay changes.

    + Provide expert advice, consultation, and training related to personnel matters.

    + Interpret, analyze, and disseminate established rules, policies and procedures.

    + Provide advice, counsel, and training to unit directors, managers, and supervisors on prevailing UW policies on hiring and compensation changes.

    + Work with fiscal managers to ensure that all personnel, are paid from appropriate sources and costing is entered into Workday accordingly.

    + Run, analyze and monitor reports pertaining to employee appointment changes, payments, and costing.

    + Provide advice, counsel, and training to unit directors, managers, supervisors, and employees on prevailing UW policies related to all aspects of employee work life including on-boarding and end of employment, work schedules, time off, and leaves.

    + Identify needs for additional policy development and/or clarification, research, and recommend policy and procedural guidelines as appropriate.

    + Develop and present orientation and onboarding programs for new SSW personnel utilizing emerging technologies.

    + Participate in the developing and implementing initiatives to streamline HR processes and procedures for successful end user experience.

    + Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and webinars/conferences/seminars.

    + Consult with hiring managers to develop job descriptions, recommend job titles, advise on salary ranges, compare offers for internal equity, and communicate offers to potential new hires.

    + Manage recruitments, ensuring recruitment and hiring steps are in accordance with SSW and UW policies and all applicable laws.

    + Communicate new hire info to facilities/SSW Tech

    + Works with senior SSW HR professionals to conduct performance management and appraisal functions for the School, including consulting with supervisors and managers around the development of performance criteria and conducting regular performance evaluations.

    + Manage promotion and reclassification processes.

    + Conduct separation procedures including exit interviews for employees and across the School as necessary, collect University equipment, system access, etc.

    + Handle tier 1 employee relations issues.

    + Work with supervisors and staff on employee performance issues.

    + Manage and coordinate with campus HR and union for all formal and final counseling plans, as well as recommendation for dismissals and grievances.

    + Create and facilitate training workshops, working sessions, presentations

    + Create, update, and maintain physical and electronic employee files

    + Manage HR reporting and metrics; provide analysis to leadership.

    + Provide consultation and HR administrative support to committees within SSW.

    + Serve as Workday HR Partner, Academic Partner and Costing Allocations Coordinator..Miscellaneous

    + Create, maintain and disseminate Workday reports for SSWHR use to support critical functions.

    + Other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic plan of the School of Social Work. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s degree in human resources, social sciences, humanities, public administration, business administration

    + Two years of relevant work experience in an academic environment. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

    + Highly organized, demonstrated ability to multitask in a consistently fast paced environment in an organized and efficient manner. Self- motivated, flexible, creative, ability to prioritize and be solutions orientated.

    + Exhibit a proactive, service-oriented manner and ability to deal effectively with a diverse and demanding client base.

    + Ability to analyze needs, assess potential avenues, and implement creative solutions to ensure a steady flow of high-quality, high-achieving staff.

    + Excellent administrative and organizational skills.

    + Thorough knowledge of HR policies, procedures, principles and practices, personnel and salary administration, recruitment techniques and management.

    + Proven leadership, communication, team building, and problem-solving capability.

    + Demonstrated ability to analyze, develop, and implement process improvements.

    + Able to write effective, useful, and timely documentation **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Master's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

    + HR Professional certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP

    + Human resources experience in an academic setting.

    + Experience working with both Union and Non-Union employees.

    + Experience working directly with faculty, administrators, and directors.

    + Knowledge of Washington State employment law.

    + Knowledge of University of Washington human resource policies.

    + Proficient in Workday, UW Hires, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**

    + Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal backgroundcheck.

    + Typically a 40 hour per week position, 2 days per week in a standard office environment, hybrid workavailable.

    + To effectively perform the duties associated with this position, schedule flexibility and extra hours(including evenings and weekends) may often be required.
