    Cosmetology Instructor

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE** **FUNCTION

    QUALIFICATIONS** **REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND/OR** **EXPERIENCE

    An Associate’s degree in Cosmetology and a minimum of three (3) years of successful

     

    full-time experience as a practitioner in the cosmetology field or teaching experience within the State of Mississippi. Hold a Cosmetology and Instructor’s License from the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology.

     

    **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following.

     

    Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

     

    Teach assigned classes according to Board policies and the occupational competencies necessary for employment.

     

    Issue students a course syllabus or policy letter at the beginning of the semester and objective sheets for each unit of the course during the semester.

     

    Keep classes in session for the full scheduled time. (Classes identified in the schedule as independent study classes will meet according to the requirements of the instructor.)

     

    Set aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance. (Minimum of 6 hours per week required)

     

    Keep prompt, up-to-date, accurate records of attendance, grades, and other reports.

     

    Work a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and submit to department chairperson a monthly work record. ( Less than full-time contractual faculty work a proportional workweek.

     

    Follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying “no-shows” in a timely manner.

     

    Participate in the establishment and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes.

     

    Attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings.

     

    Actively recruit students each semester an participate in recruitment events per the Office of Recruitment and the Dean of Career and Technical Education.

     

    (Summer, Fall, Spring)

     

    Participate in student/teacher and faculty/administrator evaluations and performance review conferences.

     

    Meet reporting requirements of the State Office of Vocational Technical Education.

     

    Develop a personal and professional improvement plan in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.

     

    Serve on committees as appointed.

     

    Participate in departmental meetings, formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives.

     

    Cooperate in the execution of the college, division, and department policies.

     

    Recommend budgetary items and submit appropriate documentation for ordering items to the Dean’s Office.

     

    Review and select appropriate textbooks and instructional materials.

     

    Participate in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities that enhance the individual and the education profession.

     

    Use teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential.

     

    Maintain proper inventory on all equipment and tools assigned to the program.

     

    Ensure that the program has an active Advisory Committee that meets each Fall and Spring.

     

    Present a personal appearance in keeping with contemporary community standards for a professional person.

     

    Maintain current credentials and certifications as required in the respective field through professional development workshops and trainings.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, taste, and smell. The employee is frequently required to sit.

     

    The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

     

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
