    HEAD START/EARLY HEAD START

    Through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 0 - 5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence, and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children also receive a broad array of health services, including screenings and referrals, maintenance of immunization schedules, nutrition assessments and follow-ups, mental health assessments as part of initial screenings, and determination if any developmental or physical delays are present. Children receive health and dental services and have access to ongoing and acute, and routine health and dental care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, along with an assessment of their nutritional needs and the necessary follow-ups. Nutrition education is available for parents and incorporated into daily classroom activities for the children.

    JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

    The Driver Coordinator advises the Food Service Program Manager on transportation requirements to support VOALA programs in both the Children-s and Adult Services divisions with food service delivery and pick up of supplies. Works in conjunction with the VOALA Fleet Coordinator to ensure the Head Start vehicles- maintenance and repairs are current. The Driver Coordinator has responsibility for the oversight of vehicle operations safety, driver training, and regular preventive maintenance of the vehicles owned and/or leased by VOALA and located at the various sites operated by VOALA.

    Specific duties include:

    + Supports Food Service Operations for Children-s and Adult Services by coordinating transportation requirements with all supervisors (Food Service Program Manager, Nutrition Supervisor(s), Fleet Coordinator, various Programs);

    + Schedules weekly driver assignments to support daily events and on an as-needed basis for emergency or other short-term needs. Stands in for drivers as needed to assure meals are delivered in a timely manner;

    + Meets with, reports, and advises the Program manager on efficient driver scheduling and vehicle usage to maximize service to the organization. Analyzes data to increase transportation operational efficiency;

    + Coordinates driver training and ensures drivers are properly trained on safe operations, proper regular vehicle inspection, and regular operator-level preventive maintenance. Meet with staff regularly, provide ongoing safety guidance, and assure safety equipment is worn properly;

    + Assist with warehouse organization and inventory as needed;

    + Submits purchase orders and reports in a timely manner, such as gas reports, vehicle audit reports, etc.;

    + Ensures compliance with CAL-OSHA and U.S. Department of Transport laws and regulations;

    + Monitors driver behavior and ensures a high level of safety and customer service. Utilize GPS systems to monitor drivers and track vehicles in case of theft;

    + Other duties as may be needed to fulfill program requirements

    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications

    + Proof at the time of hire

    + TB clearance within 6 months- prior

    + Annual Influenza vaccination (between Aug 1 - Dec 1)

    + Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization

    + Health screening at the time of employment

    + Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to:

    + Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

    + Frequently kneel and squat

    + Ability to move quickly

    + Current California driver's license and clean driving record

    EDUCATION:

    + High school diploma or GED equivalent required

    + California Driver-s License (CDL)

    + Able to obtain a California Food Handlers Certificate within 3 months from start date

    EXPERIENCE:

    + 2 years- transportation experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + First Aid/CPR certification.

    + Certifications in public health, Nutrition, Food safety, or related field.

    + California Food Handler certification

    + Catering Experience
