    The Sch o o l o f Eng ineering Medicine in collaboration with Texas A&M College of Engineering, Texas A&M Sch o o l o f Medicine and the state’s top-ranked Houston Methodist Hospital offer an innovative medical sch o o l program called ENMED . This program was established to transform healthcare through translational interdisciplinary research, the development of medical technologies, and the development and training of “ Physicianeers .” ENMED delivers a revolutionary blended curriculum with focus on innovation and entrepreneurship where students receive a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Engineering degree in the same four years.

     

    What we want

     

    The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support research in the theoretical and computational mechanics of lipid membranes. This position is part of a multidisciplinary initiative focused on advancing understanding of topologically complex membrane structures under diverse physical stimuli. This work is expected to advance fundamental understanding of cellular organelles, with potential applications across engineering and medicine

    What you need to know:

    Salary: will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

     

    Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.

     

    Travel: This position may require occasional travel for conferences or meetings

     

    Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    + Ph.D. in Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, or a closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Demonstrated experience in continuum mechanics or statistical mechanics.

    + Expertise in developing custom numerical solvers or using advanced computational platforms (e.g., COMSOL) to simulate complex membrane systems.

    + Strong publication record in membrane mechanics.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

    + Proficiency in numerical analysis.

    + Proficiency in one or more programming languages.

    + Strong written and oral communication skills.

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.

    Responsibilities

    Research

    + Develop mathematical models of topologically complex membrane structures using continuum or statistical mechanics.

    + Implement computational models of these structures using methods such as finite element analysis, finite difference schemes, or Monte Carlo simulations.

    Mentoring

    + Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in related projects.

    + Collaborate with faculty and students across mechanical engineering and applied physics.

    Presentations

    + Contribute to manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and proposal development.
