• Emergency Preparedness/Security Coordinator

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    + The Emergency Preparedness and Security (EPS) Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness and security standards to facilitate a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The EPS Coordinator will coordinate education and exercises within the organization to ensure an effective response during a disaster and will provide leadership and direction for BCHC staff during an event. Responsibilities include the integration of safety and other relevant regulations that include 24/7 oversight of incident and event response. The EPS Coordinator will conduct drills, inspections, and training required by federal, state, and local authorities having jurisdiction throughout the facilities. This person is responsible for the documentation of these activities and follow-up on any concerns or safety issues encountered. The EPS Coordinator will also assist in maintaining records required by all authorities having jurisdiction as well as to ensure BCHC compliance with all emergency management standards of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) conditions of participation.

     

    The EPS Coordinator will play a key role in leading the Hazmat Preparedness Program at BCHC. In addition, the coordinator will focus on Violence Prevention initiatives in collaboration with Employee Health and Human Resources

    EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

    + High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

    + 3–5 years in emergency management, security coordination, or a related role required.

    + Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Safety, or a related field, preferred.

    + Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure.

    + Certification in Emergency Management/ Preparedness or able to obtain within 6 months from assumption of duties.

    + Completion and certification for de-escalation training such as Advanced Crisis Prevention within 6 months from assumption of duties. Must follow renewal requirements for CPI.

    + Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 3 months from assumption of duties.

    + Completion of Basic Emergency Command Center Operations IS-2200 within 3 months from assumption of duties.

    + Completion of Certified Healthcare Emergency Coordinator (CHEC) basic and advanced courses within 1 year of assumption of duties.

    + Knowledge of and/or ability to access OSHA and Emergency Preparedness Regulations and guidelines.

    + Ability to listen carefully, incorporate feedback into decision-making and provide constructive feedback.

    + Ability to delegate responsibilities.

    + Analytical skills necessary to evaluate and make recommendations regarding emergency management issues.

    + Ability to motivate and encourage individuals under stressful situations.

    + Attend FEMA Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) for Mass Casualty Incidents training or other form of Hospital Decontamination training within 12 months from assumption of duties.

    + Ability to obtain de-escalation program instructor status (such as CPI) within 15 months of assumption of duties.

    WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    + General knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook is required.

    + 3-5 years of experience in emergency preparedness, emergency response, safety and/or regulatory compliance, preferably in healthcare.
