**Pay Range:** $114,732 - $146,286
Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of tax compliance, planning, audits, controls, and accounting compliance for Rush System for Health (RSH) and its affiliates. The manager will work with operations, legal, finance, taxing authorities, and others to identify issues, implement strategies, and ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance for the system. The manager will oversee and manage all tax reporting, tax accounting reporting, and outside tax audits while limiting risk to RSH. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Required Job Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
+ 7 to 10 years of experience in U.S. taxation, preferably in the hospital or healthcare sector.
+ 3 to 5 years of experience preparing federal and state 990s and 990-Ts.
+ Highly proficient in the use of Excel spreadsheets and other accounting software.
+ Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, customer service, and organizational skills.
+ Demonstrated strong work ethic, including the willingness to work additional hours as needed to meet deadlines, especially during high-pressure periods.
+ Expertise in tax, including current tax reporting rules and U.S. GAAP.
+ In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax issues.
+ Experience with internal control procedures to ensure compliance.
+ Ability to manage projects, establish processes, and take initiative.
+ Strong leadership, supervisory, decision-making, and technical skills.
+ Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Ability to supervise and train staff.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
+ CPA
+ 7-10 years of U.S. Big Four Accounting Firm tax experience.
+ Experience with K-1 Unrelated Business Income and International (926; 8865; 5471) reporting.
Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance
+ Prepare work papers and supporting schedules for Federal (990, 990-T, 1120, 720, 4720, 1042) and State (990-Ts, IL-1120, IL-ST-1, STAX-300-HC) tax return filings for review by third-party tax compliance service providers.
+ Manage the relationship with key tax compliance services providers and their performance.
+ Interact with management of Accounts Payable, Payroll, Human Resources, Philanthropy, Community Health Improvement, and Government Relations to gather needed information for the tax return filings.
+ Reconcile the tax liability account monthly to ensure adequate accruals for tax obligations and tax consultant payables.
+ Provide timely responses and resolutions to income tax inquiries, notices, and issues originating from but not limited to third-party tax service providers, internal departments, customers, and taxing authorities.
+ Compile tax-related audit workpapers for the annual financial audit.
+ Prepare sales and use tax filings.
+ Understanding of student and nonresident alien tax requirements.
+ Develop, streamline, and implement policies, procedures, controls, and worksheets to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in preparing tax returns.
+ Research and advise on new or changing tax regulations that may impact the business and other internal activities.
+ Recognize complex technical issues, research appropriate conclusions, and apply authority to support conclusions.
+ Continue to develop industry expertise and stay abreast of industry news; contribute to staff development by sharing industry knowledge.
Strategic Tax
+ Provide guidance to operating units in reviewing activities that may be subject to tax.
+ Analyze tax implications of potential business decisions.
+ Development and implementation of tax planning strategies with management and executive leadership.
+ Evaluate and implement strategy with acquisitions and mergers involving partnerships and potential targets, including legal entity formation and tax due diligence.
