Description We are looking for a highly motivated and meticulous Purchaser to join our team in San Luis Obispo, California. In this role, you will play a key part in managing procurement processes, optimizing inventory levels, and building strong relationships with vendors and internal teams. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of a growing organization through strategic purchasing and data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee procurement activities, including forecasting, purchasing planning, and vendor negotiations to ensure cost-effective inventory management.
• Develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with business objectives, focusing on margin improvement and product quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute purchasing plans based on sales forecasts, seasonal trends, and market analysis.
• Manage supplier relationships by negotiating contracts, payment terms, freight agreements, and service-level expectations.
• Ensure inventory accuracy through regular updates, audits, and participation in annual physical inventory counts.
• Provide support to other purchasing agents to ensure seamless operations across the team.
• Maintain attentive and courteous relationships with vendors, colleagues, and customers to uphold organizational standards.
• Monitor and analyze purchasing metrics to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
• Guide less experienced team members, offering advice on procurement strategies and inventory management best practices. Requirements • 2-4 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with a solid understanding of inventory metrics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other relevant computer systems.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and support sales staff.
• Background in agriculture, hardware, or other retail categories is preferred.
• Experience in multi-location retail or wholesale environments is an asset.
• Familiarity with national vendor programs and trade shows is advantageous.
